We enjoy hosting independent travellers, who are fit and healthy and interested in sustainable farming and living. Staying here, you will have to spend some time by yourself, so you should be happy with your own company. We are looking for short term (up to about 10 days), or longer if we get on together.

Helpers stay in the spare rooms in our house; one has a single bed, the other has a double mattress on the floor. Or we have a self-contained flat for couples or friends travelling together.

Our property is in a beautiful coastal area near the small town of Cygnet, around 60 km south of Hobart. We have established a mixed organic orchard and vegetable garden area, and polytunnel greenhouse; we have small flocks of alpacas and sheep for fleece production. We also foster (look after) ponies and sheep for the local animal shelter. There are lots of birds and other wildlife. Our farm has around one-third bush (forest). Walk to the bay; swim in summer.

It can be hard work, so you need to be fit and strong, preferably with outdoor work experience. At the moment we need weeding done out in the paddocks and wood carted from the bush.

Must be non-smoking, friendly but quiet, independent, responsible and willing to work. No pets.

We will share most meals but you will be expected to help with meal preparation and cleaning up. Most food is vegetarian (fish sometimes). Any extras, such as snacks that you want, will be at your own expense. Vegans welcome.

Wireless internet access is available, but mobile phone coverage is usually poor.

Cygnet is 9 km away and has all facilities like shops, post office, on-line access centre, library, excellent cafes and is a great community to live in/near. We have bicycles you can use, if you have travel insurance. We can give lifts to Cygnet for bus access, or if we're going in ourselves, and we enjoy taking helpers on little excursions around the local area for walks, swimming, garden visits etc.

We can collect from the bus in Cygnet or Woodbridge.

Helpers should have travel insurance.
