Hello Helpers

We are looking for a Helpx from 27 November. onwards - though we can be flexible with an earlier arrival date

We need a helper who can do a variety of jobs around the Buddhist Centre mostly working in our cafe (want to learn barista skills?) but there may be other jobs such as cooking, cleaning and DIY. We need someone who has a reasonable level of English because of contact with customers in the café

We ask for a minimum of 2 weeks and prefer helpers who can stay longer

We are a Buddhist Centre run by a dedicated team of volunteers who aim to create an oasis of peace which is accessible for all members of the community. We offer a range of meditation classes and courses which are designed to help people to find inner peace and contentment and solve their human problems and to learn more about Buddhism. On the ground floor of our building, we run a Community Cafe which serves vegetarian food including home made cakes and soups and offers a place where people can take time out of their busy lives and relax.

If you are interested, while you are with us, you will be able to attend our meditation classes and courses where these do not conflict with the working day (we have several evening classes).
In return for 35 hours per week, we offer accommodation ( your own single room), food and free meditation classes
Lunch can be provided when the cafe is open but you would be expected to make your own meals at other times (food will be provided or money to purchase food).

As a Buddhist community, you would need to abide by our philosophy whilst in the Centre - no eating meat, no drinking alcohol, no playing music and no smoking on the premises. Buddha Land is in the centre of Keighley with our residential house a short (15 mins ) walk away
It is likely that you may be the only member of your nationality in Keighley but this hasnt been a problem for almost all of our Helpers.

We are located in Keighley which is situated between the famous Bronte Moors in Haworth(3 miles away),the beautiful Yorkshire Dales (Skipton, Gateway to the Dales is 20 mins on the train), picturesque Hebden Bridge (40 minute bus journey) and Saltaire (World Heritage Site) is 15 mins on the train. The cities of Leeds and Bradford are a short train journey away(25 minutes)and historic York is accessable by bus or train
Due to the visa restrictions of the UK government if you are an applicant who resides outside the EU please ensure your visa allows you to do voluntary work.
