We live centrally on the Island, half way between Charlottetown and Summerside (PEI's largest cities) on 14 acres, with 3 acres in vegetable gardens, and 1/2 acre in strawberries. There are also 4 greenhouses. Two are in production year round, and the other will be used for warm weather crops. Two of the greenhouses are smaller and are used for seedlings.
We have a CSA, a Veggie box program and farm-gate sales. We grow a wide range of vegetables. We also have some animals including laying hens, meat chickens and pigs. The pigs are pastured raised. We are training some young Oxen this summer.
Throughout the winter months we are harvesting from the greenhouse for veggie boxes and preparing for the next growing season. Work is both indoors and out.
There is always a lot to do. Depending on the time of year, you may help with a variety of tasks such as weeding, planting, harvesting, and preparing veggies for the CSA, feeding the animals, collecting eggs, and other projects around the farm. There is always something that needs to be done.
We can always use an extra handy person, to help with odd jobs, small constructions jobs, (puting up greenhouses), painting etc.
We freeze, can and preserve extra vegetables, and fruits. Some things we make include pickles, salsa, ketchup, chilli sauce, apple sauce and jams. Everything is enjoyed throughout the year during meals.
We have a separate bedroom above the detached garage, or camping is available. The separate space is approx 500sq. ft so more than enough room. Washroom facilities are located in the house and shared with the family.
With being centrally located on the Island everything is pretty close. There will be time to see what this beautiful Island has to offer. Breadalane is the nearest community with the Confederation Trail which runs from one side of the Island to the other, and a hiking trail with a river for fishing. There is a playground and a library located within the community as well. We are a short drive to several beaches on either the North or South Shore.
During time off we have a selection of family games for indoors or outdoors. Or a stroll to see the views from the rolling hills. Most meals are family style. Feel free to join us when we go out for ice cream or other event.
We do have a large dog. We do ask for a minimum 3 week stay.
