About us and where we live:
We, 32 (?) and 35 (?), open-minded, nature and adventure loving, are proud to call ourselves owner of a beautiful old Gruenderzeit house in Leipzig.
Colourful, divers and open that's life in Leipzig. The city is famous for its vivid cultural scene with its countless clubs, pubs, museums, cabarets, libraries, opera and "Gewandhaus". Nevertheless hectic you won't find in Leipzig. In the midst of many parks and surrounded by a beautiful lake- and river scape you can also let your soul tangle and enjoy the solitude of a 500.000- inhabitants-village.
Located in the multi-cultural eastern part of Leipzig our house is by tram just 5 minutes away from main station & city centre. It was built in 1910 and is full of living history and spirit. Unfortunately this liveliness has given way to emptiness and greyness within the last years as nobody took care of keeping the house intact. To make it completely habitable once again there is much to do (see below 'Things to do').
Our dream is to breathe new life and colour in these ancient walls and the garden on the rear side of the building and make it to a place for alternative way of living and artistic freedom.
If you want you could help us. It would be our pleasure to welcome you in this small oasis.
Besides: Traveling to our house in Leipzig is very easy and not so much expensive. You can come by plain (low budget airline Easyjet or Ryanair) to Berlin and then by train to Leipzig or directly by plane to airport Leipzig/Halle (low budget airline TuiFly). We could also help you in organizing your trip.
Things to do:
We would like to join the creative power and ideas of people from different countries and cultures with the possibility of common (leisure-time) activities and experiences.
You can bring in your talents or skills in different ways, e.g. practically by renovating/repairing the interior (floors, walls, doors, windows, tiles,...), by painting and wallpapering (working with natural colours), by building (bunk) beds or shelves, by sewing curtains, pillows or other decorations (I have a good sewing machine) or by beautifying the outside areas (gardening, planting flowers, decorating the facade, sawing wood) or even by designing and creating a homepage via CMS (e.g. Contao). Or you can also help in a something bizarre and unconventional way e.g. by building wooden sculptures, making pottery, painting walls and facades, rebuilding old leaded glass windows, creating and making furnishings from simple things of life, helping with implementation of permacultures in urban areas.
You see, there are plenty of ideas to be put into practice.
For helping an average of 5 hours per day we can offer you food, accommodation and a place for exchange, for meeting people or for self-making music and arts.
Times and works are not strictly determined in advance. Some days we need your help throughout the whole day, but other days there is nothing to do. We will talk about that and try to find the best solution.
Please note that for us everyday is a working day, also the weekends and holidays and works can be done in the early mornings as well as in the late evenings (depending on e.g. kind of work or season). So you should be flexible in working and planning your leisure time.
One more thing we would like to mention: before visiting us, please make sure that you are sufficiently insured (in case off illness or injuring yourself).
We speak German and English, but we would also like to learn other languages.
We have plenty of rooms in our house. Most of them are still empty and are waiting for (self-made) furniture, some others are very simple, but functional equipped. You can heat the rooms with wood or coal by yourselves. There is no central gas or oil heating in the house. Kitchen and bathroom are separate and can be used by all volunteers. Internet is available in the house.
What we do else:
When we are not working in our house, we organize alternative, very-close-to-nature camps for students and nature friends (e.g. canoeing, hiking, riding, sailing) throughout the untouched outback of Europe (e.g. Germany, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Croatia).
As compensation to the (local) help in the Gruenderzeit house we can also imaging getting support in (transnational) nature-based tourism - means a combination of holidays and joining & supporting us during the travels (administrator of the group).
Prerequisite: several-week support in Leipzig, flexibility, reliability and loyalty
If you like to get more information about our outdoor-camps, please ask for our Website per mail.
