Our place named by the Maori of New Zealand, means a place where people can find sustinence, health, and well-being. We are an organic community, and are able to offer short and long term positions.

Work includes indoor and outdoor maintenance, building, earth building, cobbled driveway and path care, cleaning, kitchen hands, laundry, animal care, vineyard care, establishing orchards and vines, tree planting, track clearing, hydro, solar, and wind turbine care, digester instillation, mechanics, general hands to fix broken tools etc. fishers and hunters, fencers, office and IT communications. We we work six hours a day, six days a week, and have a complete rest one day a week.
In the 18 hours a day that you are not working, you can enjoy the lovely environment with a variety of land and sea based activities. You can relax in our extensive library, or outdoor entertainment center, make music, do arts and crafts, woodworking, bone carving, jewellery making, ride horses, hike in the hills, or view educational videos on a big screen, attend lectures, and enjoy telescope gazing and astronomy, or sleep.

In exchange for your work you will receive three delicious meals a day, and accommodation in a two story eco-house, with indoor-outdoor kitchen, dining and living areas. Your accommodation is a stone's throw from our private bay as a front door, and rambling gardens, hills, and waterfalls as our back door.
Tira has been called a model of sustainable living, and we want to further our reputation for excellence, in teaching visitors from around the world how to live with a green footprint, by respecting our natural environment and each other, and to have fun while we are doing it! This is a wonderful place to be part of and contribute to, at least once in your life. Kia ora, haare mai.
