We are a German non-profit organization devoted to improving education and healthcare in remote villages along the Nam Ou. We have been active in the region for six years now, and have constructed educational facilities in four villages while establishing close relations with the local authorities.

At the moment we are also looking for a new In-country manager (ICM)!

Working conditions
Location: Luang Prabang (office of our partner organization Lao Youth Travel)
Equipment: Standard office communication (computer, printer, scanner, phone, Skype), Bicycle service
Working hours: Typically according to local office hours, subject-related variations are possible and necessary flexibility
Vacation: individually negotiated in consultation with the Board
Accommodation: Responsibility of the ICM

This is a voluntary position. It is paid a monthly allowance and the cost of visas and travel required in the project area. Any form of personal insurance is the matter / of ICM.

Nature of Work
o accounting for revenues and expenditures in Laos (continuous)
o Submission of applications (for Lao authorities, German Embassy, foundations, needs-related)
o Accounting of grants provided by third parties (as required)
o liaising with authorities and partner organizations (continuous)
o Communication with potential volunteers (needs based, often)
o interviewing applicants for volunteer positions (needs based)
o report writing (occasionally)
o Creation of concepts (sometimes)
o support from sponsors traveling (sometimes)
o Coordinate project work with the Field Manager (continuous)
o arrangements with the club committee in Germany (very often)
o inspection trips (occasionally as needed) into the work area


Job requirements
o mastery of English and German language in written and spoken
o basic IT skills (Excel, Word ...)
o floor-ready appearance
o willingness and enjoyment of travel in remote area under difficult conditions
o physical fitness and resilience
o mental stability even in extreme conditions

Due to the complexity of the job we would appreciate a commitment of 12 months plus.

Apart from that we are also looking for:

We are always looking for people for various tasks
a) with experience in construction or
b) from an educational/socialworking/healthcare background

You would be working on site most of the time along with the villagers.

As a volunteer, you will live as part of a friendly and hospitable family in a remote village, not accessible by car or motorbike, about three hours by boat upstream of the nearest town with services such as guesthouses, telephone, or the internet. The organization will cover food and accomodation, while you are with your host family.

For this position you should:
- have a flexible schedule
- speak English or German
- be confident, easy going, reliable and well mannered
- know and get along with the asian mentality
- have a certain experience/age/demeanour, that will be necessary
