If you are looking for comfortable private rooms and food served ready on the table, PLEASE move on, plenty of projects offer just that. Ours is a rough place of great natural beauty. Our commitment is to offer you along with all beings who live here the opportunity to FULLY BE YOUR SELF. Rather than imposing established rhythms, schedules or chores onto you, you will be invited to find out WHO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE, and from there, what you want do do at and for this place.
Rather than being "looked after", the finca invites us to take the responsibility back for our own experience during our stay here, in fact, the responsibility for our own lives, thus getting really involved in changing the world, BEING the change, starting from the inside, from our innermost Self.
Starting to learn skills that we need for living in nature as sustainable, unique, individual beings, infinitely different from each other, yet forming a sustainable community of all living creatures on earth.
Stepping out from a system that destroys itself and the future of our children and grandchildren. That keeps people passive and hypnotized in their comfortable entertained lives, afraid of being responsible, self reliant, spontaneous, expressive, alive.
Stepping out in this way can be seen as a silent and peaceful revolution.
Please only apply if your intention is to stay at least three weeks. Of course you can leave whenever you wish - as well as you might be asked to move on if this turns out not to be your place - or stay longer if you fall in love with life on the finca. We just ask you to come with a minimum of three weeks' time.
The finca also gives long term dwellers the chance to develop their own vision, create their own world, live their own dream.
PLEASE READ OUR WHOLE PROFILE CAREFULLY BEFORE CONTACTING US!!!
The finca is 6.5ha big, half pasture, half forest (wild olive and mastix trees and bushes). There is an antique stable, the natural stone ruins of the original cottages, a vegetable garden that hasn't been worked for fifty years - around 5000 sqm - and two terraces with a few fruit trees (fig, quince, orange and pomme granate).
It is situated between the virgin beach of Bolonia and the surfer's "capital" Tarifa.
Its main purpose is to provide living space and serve the needs of rescue animals such as horses, ponies, a guardian llama, dogs and cats.Wild boars, foxes, partridges, quails, badgers and mountain cats decide more and more often to come near us, watching our activities with cautious curiosity, sometimes entering our premises to take a sniff of who we are. This being the starting base for myriads of birds taking off to and coming back from Africa every year, the finca is overflown and sometimes used by them as a resting place. Insects and reptiles are present in great variety, apart from the odd wasp-sting and happy mosquito and flea activities never presenting any collisions. :-)
The untrained work needed mainly consists of rubble road repairing, tree trimming, bush cutting and burning, house cleaning, painting, repairs and maintenance of cabin, main house, horse corrals and natural stone wall repair.
As mentioned above, please only apply if you can stay at least three weeks, as it takes quite a while to get into the place and understand its requirements. Thank you! :-)
The old stable has been almost fully restored and
now the original natural stone houses wait for rebuilding, roofing, stone floor laying etc, so we would highly appreciate your help if you're a carpenter or have some carpentry skills, builder and/or roofer with some experience in old natural stone building.
If you love to be around the animals you're welcome to join our walks with them. If you share our passion for communication in all its guises you may choose to engage in horse-communication and/or professional language classes,Spanish/English/German, study Yangjia Michuan Taijiquan, or just lay back and enjoy our great view over the straight to the African continent . . . :-)
Helpers now just work two hours/day (14hrs/week in free distribution), providing their own food, in exchange for lodging in our cabin dormitory,to find the necessary time to explore the area, learn, study and/or practice their art.
This way they accompany us on excursions to local farms and markets where they get the chance to meet the traditional local farmers and cattle breeders and cheaply buy the food that suits them best.
In the cabin there is basic solar electricity (working most of the time,so be prepared to do without or repair it...;-)) with two LED bulbs and to charge cameras, phones, tablets, flashlights etc, and there is no plumbing.
We have clear, clean well water and an outdoor compost toilet. In the cabin there is a wood burning stove for heat, water heating and cooking (especially equipped for pizza-making!), and simple meals can also be cooked on a two flame gas cooker. We are getting ready to prepare the vegetable garden for future cultivation of bio vegetables, but at the present moment no food of any kind is produced yet on the finca. (wild esparragus, tagarnina and mushrooms grow spontaneously).
For the rough natural life on the finca it is necessary for you to bring your own sleeping bag, sheet, towel, a flashlight and any toiletries you might wish to use, such as soap, shampoo, sun screen, insect repellent etc.
For the winter months you will need a pair of mud-proof boots(or wellingtons) and water proof clothes, as our place tends to get very muddy with the rain. Temperatures rarely go below 10 degrees celsius in the nights.
Please make sure you bring only as much luggage as you can carry yourself a 2km walking distance over a rough dirt road.
The more independent and self sufficient you are, the better.
There is an excellent signal on the finca for most mobile phone servers and perfect internet signal if you want to connect yourself with mobile data on your own pc, tablet or smartphone.
Whenever our washing machine chooses to perform and there is enough water and the solar batteries of the main house are charged to run the solar pump from the rainwater tank we gladly do the odd cold water laundry for you. :-)
Please INFORM US RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING AND WITHOUT FAIL if you have any special health conditions, such as handicaps, allergies, injuries etc, special dietary needs and/or dependencies on substances, so that we can see whether the life on the finca is compatible with your needs. Please take this request seriously, as you might take the trip out here in vain finding you can't cope with the roughness of life in the woods.
Please also be aware that the finca is 16km away from the next health centre and that we are not prepared to attend you if you are sick and in need of professional medical care. You and you ALONE will be responsible for your own health, and in case of falling ill or having an accident you will be either given a lift to the next health center by us,if there is a functional vehicle available, or
attended by the Spanish ambulance services (if you are not on the Spanish social security you will have to pay) and taken to a hospital. In case of real rough weather conditions this might even imply the deployment of a rescue helicopter. Therefore a proper health insurance is a MUST. Depending on what kind of health insurance covers you, you might also be asked by the Spanish health services to pay for your transport/treatment in advance. Please be prepared to be checked on this upon arrival.
As pointed out above, the finca offers the opportunity to pioneers to stay long-term to lifelong and create their independent projects, such as art projects (plenty of space for open air workshops, studios etc), small businesses (for example activities with children and animals, meditation workshops )or just for retirement and recreation (if you're income independent.)
If you wish to get a closer impression of our place and our animals´ interactions, go to `pia lau´ in youtube and you will find a handful of videos, some of them quite amazing. :-)oh - and not ALL the videos show our place - tarifa lifestyle alternative, for example, is just a place that also some of our volunteers helped creating and filling with life in spring 2013.
