This is a small farm from 1800-something on 5 acres of land with just a few animals, mostly small indoor dogs (not suitable for you if you are allergic).
The old farmhouse, with emphasis on rural, rustic and conscious, deliberate non exclusive, just simple basic features, had been deserted, severely neglected and on its own for years, when we decided to "kick it alive" again, last year. Thanks to a lot of dedication and willing helping hands, it now slowly regains its former, still highly intentional spartan and humble, state. To all our HelpXers: Thank you so very much, guys! You all made such a difference with your enthusiasm and perseverance! The farm is situated in the heart of the very south-east of Sweden, a district known for its open landscape, closeness to the sea and many fruit orchards - a really beautiful vacation paradise! Spring is a wonder of flowering fruit trees everywhere. From springtime the population increases vastly when all "native" artists start giving vernissages, exhibitions that run all through the season. Summertime this area is frequently visited by tourists from all over, which makes the atmosphere quite "continental" and multicultural. Part from the obvious attractions like long "never ending" white sanded beaches and clean lakes there is also a local pool in the village, opportunity to go fishing in nearby lake, shops and a lot of interesting art crafts, museums, archaeological sites, interesting old flora and fauna and so on. Possibility to go horseback riding, glide hanging, windsurfing and so much more! Autumn is normally long, warm and beautiful and usually offers a huge amount of delicious mushrooms in the nearby woods.
Bicycles can be lent if you want to explore the countryside by yourself. Bus and train within 5-10 min walking distance will take you all over! In no time and effortless you can be in the universitycity Lund or Malmoe, the third largest city of Sweden or why not spend a day or two in Copenhagen in Denmark! Or take the ferry to beautiful Danish island Bornholm just outside Simrishamn!
It's really easy to get here, there are superb communications. Either by train or bus and of course by car. We can pick you up from the station and we'll help you with how to get around to the many different sightings.
There are always things to do around an old farmhouse. Restoration and refurbishment like painting and liming, carpentry and building tasks, plumbing and misc fixings in- and outdoors, cleaning up old building materials around the farm, chopping and cutting wood for the fireplace and gardening like weeding, planting, fencing and so on. On our "to do-list" for 2013 is to found a new vegetable garden, plant new trees, create a nursery for own tobacco cultivation, construct a conservatory and more.
You'll live with us as a family member in the house with access to all facilities like free non-limited wi-fi internet, TV, phone, laundry a s f. If you're a couple or friends, you'll share room, there are 2 guest rooms available. Family bathroom - for the time being. Another one will be built this year.
Since this work constellation definitely should be a "win-win", we will adjust your working hours after your sightseeing plans. The main purpose with this host program, as we see it, must be to enjoy, enrich and energize each others lives.
(Comments on prior occasion: We expect you to take part in the normal daily chores of a household - no "hotel stay", that is... ;D If you're looking for a B&B or pension with full board, without work exchange, we can recommend some nice places in the area for prices ranging from 350SEK to 1600SEK pp and day. We can also get you a hostel place (only bed, no breakfast) at a friends place for as little as 125 SEK/night.)
But if you instead are interested in work exchange, you're welcome to our place!
We do not present us as "ecological, organic, biological 100% correct"... BUT there has not been used any chemicals or artificial stuff here for at least the last 25 years! Since we do not produce anything for the market, there is no need for official certification.
We're no vegetarians but if you are - we can arrange proper, ecological food for you. Inform us ahead of food preferences.
We'd love to try your cooking out once in a while! You're welcome to take "possession" of the kitchen if you're up to it!
Very welcome to send us a brief description of you, your interests, skills and travelling plans.
We look forward to get to know you!
