Did you always want to work where other people holiday, enjoy island life and meet amazing people, you are hard working and a nature lover? this is for you !
We are welcoming singles or couple to assist the operation at this beautiful island resort immediately.
We ask all Helpx to commit to a 2 weeks stay, longer stays are also welcome.
Please be prepared to work 4.5 - 5 hours a day
If you are serious about the exchange and interested in applying, please read the following information carefully to make sure the position is suitable for you.
ABOUT PALM BAY
This is a little slice of paradise located in the heart of the Whitsundays. We are one of the few resorts left that offer a ‘real’ island escape and we allow you to stay here for free!
There are no other resorts in the Whitsundays that allow their staff to use the facilities, but we welcome you to!This is provided you respect the equipment and our resort guests, as they have first preference to the activities and facilities available (they pay to be here!).
These activities include:
-Use of the beachfront pavilions
4.5 hours a day of work with every fourth day off so you can fully enjoy our island paradise.
The shift start times vary from 8am,9.30am, 2pm and 6pm. These may be subject to change depending on housekeeping.
If you are a couple/friends there is no guarantee that you will always be working with each other. We however will endeavour to give you the same days off together.
using a hospitality grade dishwasher
wiping down surfaces,
sweeping & mopping
cleaning the pool
cleaning communal bathrooms
ridding communal pathways of leaves
removing fallen palm fronds and coconuts (you may eat the ripe ones)
sweeping pavilions etc.
replenishing resort guests towels
stripping all dirty linen and towels from rooms
vacuuming and mopping etc.
*Please note that previous work experience is necessary. If you have never had a job
b before, you may find work here difficult
Your accommodation will be in the resort staff quarters which has double and single rooms available with shared bathrooms and toilets.
You will have access to a newly renovated shared kitchen, fridge and freezer.
Linen and towels are provided.
As we are an Eco resort and solely reliant on rain-water, we will allow you to do washing but only if it is a large load. We have a limited supply of water and appreciate your respect for it during your stay.
Because we operate as a Self catering resort (all of our guests bring their own food and drinks), you will also need to bring your own food and drinks.(our water is OK to drink) This also means there are no restaurants.
WE suggest you purchase your food at one of the Shopping Centres in Cannonvale or Woolworths supermarket in the main street of Airlie Beach before coming to Long Island - bring as much as possible, at least enough for your stay.
Food deliveries are possible for a longer stay, this may incur a charge.
The resort has a small shop which sells some basic non perishable groceries, frozen food including meats, seafood and bread and drinks including alcohol but prices are higher than the mainland due to logistics and ferry transport costs.
Transfers to here will be by water-taxi or island transfer services. You need to contact us via email to discuss times associated with these services. We have arranged a deal with the water-taxi company to give you a staff rate, the transfer is $20 per person one-way.
Transport to and from the island is at your own expense, the resort does not cover this cost.
It is recommended to fly into Proserpine Airport or arrive from Airlie Beach. Transfers from Hamilton Island are not recommended, it is very expensive to get to Palm Bay from there.
It is best to stay overnight in Airlie Beach so you can buy your supplies, our transfers to the island are early in the morning and depart from Shute Harbour, we will email you the time of your transfer.
A uniform will be provided upon arrival. There is a $25 deposit that is required for this, you will receive it back on your departure once your shirt is returned and provided it is undamaged.
Please note: You will need to bring your own wifi. If you require the internet to contact family or print tickets you are able to do so at reception.
You require a VISA to be accepted as a Helpx.
Unfortunately we cannot sign for your second year visa.
