CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP ON THE FARM FOR THE WINTER. Work includes; feeding and mucking out animals, painting and maintenance work, flower picking and general assistance with day to day running of the smallholding. Please look into the cost of travelling to the islands before applying to come as it is quite expensive and puts off a lot of potential helpers. www.islesofscilly-travel.co.uk
Also taking applications for next summer (March onwards) to help in the cafe...could suit a couple or 2 friends.
We are a small, family run, local food cafe/bistro on the island of St Martins in the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall. Most the food we sell is grown and produced on our smallholding and then freshly prepared in our kitchen. The cafe is open from April til October each summer (the main tourist season). But we sometimes take helpers on in the winter months to assist with farm and/or maintenance work, etc.

We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to help with all aspects...waiting tables, cleaning, cooking, helping out on the farm, ect. The majority of the work is front of house, waitressing and cleaning the premises but if there is an interest/capability we are happy to train longer term helpers to assist with the cooking or helping out on the farm. Helpers with experience with front of house work would be preferred but not essential. Looking for friendly, outgoing people who love good food and can provide service with a smile!
Helpers will have food provided from the cafe or access to ingredients and a kitchen to cook for themselves. Accommodation is self contained bedsits/flat with toilet, shower and kitchen with an outside area for bbqs ect, so helpers have privacy but space to socialise if you wish. We usually take on 2-3 helpers at a time depending on how busy we are and expect around 20 hours per week (there is sometimes the possibility of extra paid work for longer term helpers who show capability for the work). Would particularly suit helpers wishing to gain experience in the hospitality/catering industry in a relaxed environment (we can provide a reference for those looking to find work afterwards). Longer term helpers preferred!

The island of St Martins is very small (only about 100 permanent residence in the winter months) but very busy in the summer tourist season. We have a lovely local pub, a hotel bar, fish and chip restaurant and a post office/stores, there are more shops, ect on the main island of St Marys - just a short boat trip away. Helpers have plenty of time off to explore the islands and there is plenty of opportunity for outdoor actvities - walking, swimming, diving, tennis, cricket, ect. There is also a small gym on the island.

If you think this could be for you please get in touch...let us know if you have experience with any particular aspect of our work and how long you would like to stay. Look forward to hearing from you!
