We are a retired couple running an exclusive bed and breakfast holiday retreat, remote and high in the mountains of Crete. The house is set in extensive gardens spread over a hilltop and we need help with all sorts of setup and maintenance garden tasks - preparing beds, planting, pruning, building stone walls and laying paths.

We are ancient (64 & 56), widely known as eccentric, love food and drink, spend hours talking about things that matter, active and young at heart. I am just a Brit, but Yasmin is half German/half Persian, and really interesting! We have set up this B&B business and have had several successful, tho busy, summer seasons. Out of this season there’s loads of stuff to do – in the garden, and the house – and we could use some willing hands to work with us.

We much prefer to have a single man – most of the work is pretty physical, and outside. To take on a man and woman we would need to be convinced that both of them were able and willing to do the same sort of work. Above all we need helpers who are motivated, have plenty of energy, can show some initiative and are keen to work.

Relevant experience helps too, and we are keen to see how hosts or other people you have worked for have found you, so references, either thru HelpX or external, are essential.

For 2016 we need help in late Jan and February. After this our season starts and goes on until October where we are busy with guests and not taking Helpers.

We need HelpXers who can stay for 2 weeks or so, strong and keen, who relish outdoor work. Although we don’t ask anyone to do anything we wouldn’t do, we need fit and strong helpers for these garden tasks. Building paths thru the garden, constructing a canopy to provide shade over the aloni, preparing troughs and raised beds for planting, strimming, pruning and shredding – this gives you a snapshot of our needs.

We need you to work 5-6 days a week, around 5-6h per day. Because the weather may mean we cannot work outside, we will need to keep the working days flexible.

We offer your own personal accommodation in our fully self contained basement apartment. This has a bedroom, an ensuite shower room, and a fully equipped kitchen. We ourselves live down there in the summer whilst we have guests. It is centrally heated and has its own independent access. You have your own small patio with views of the sea & a nearby village. We have wireless internet thru out the house.

We’ll provide you with food and drink which you can use to prepare your own meals in the apartment. Sometimes we will eat and drink together – the same sort of thing as we prepare for our guests!

The property is remote, but there is a taverna 5 min walk away. A daily bus service runs into the coastal village, Kalives, and on to Chania, the nearest town. We go “off the hill” to Kalyves, our nearest town about 20min drive away quite often, and it may sometimes be possible to take you down with us after you have finished working. On your day off we can try to arrange to take you into Chania, where we shop once a week or so.

If you like nature, there are stunning walks in the mountains close to us, there is solitude, peace and quiet. Panokosmos is in a magnificent setting, with stunning all round views. Its a great place to contemplate, discover yourself and gain a new perspective.

In the photos you see us holidaying a while ago down in the South of the island, then the house, crouching under the mountains. Third a view of the house and pool, then the garden, looking down from the roof terrace past the pool and out over the Apokoronas region. 5th is a view of the White Mountains from our rooftop terrace, and lastly a recent project, adding a patio area in a corner of the garden.
