Hi HelpXers,

Mum (Pat) and I (James) moved here 5 years ago to get some land, escape the busy city consumer lifestyle and start on a path of sustainability and self-sufficiency. We are starting to produce our own organic food, water, energy, materials and much more. Basically trying to remove the dependencies we have on big corporations and the failing economic system. I believe we need to re-establish community, sharing, loving and helping each other, rather than pursuing our manufactured and isolating need for money, big TVs, fast cars and bling etc!

As Pat will no longer be cooking or providing accommodation for the volunteers in the Cottage, I have moved into the cabin to begin making it suitable for this purpose. We are therefore looking for someone to help re-renovate the cabin. You would be sharing the cabin with me and assist while we finish building the kitchen extension and doing general maintenance, making it a nice place for us and future volunteers to cook, sleep, and feel at home. There is a cooker at the moment but no sink so it is a bit tricky preparing meals. However this is good motivation for us to get the kitchen finished and this will be our main priority, so experience with a saw and drill would be a bonus!

A possible longer term position is available once the cabin is complete, which would include more involvement in the day to day running; animal care, garden maintenance and being available to take over daily routine allowing either myself or Pat to go away for a few days. Other jobs include assistance with feeding and mucking out animals, collecting eggs, watering, weeding, planting, sowing, potting up, harvesting, preserving, digging, strimming, cutting wood, splitting logs, forest maintenance, chipping, making compost, bed prep, re-pointing the stone walling and paving slabs, hedge cutting ... the list goes on!

Please enquire for more details.
