A William IV period Manse (Vicarage) in the heart of Speyside renowned the world over for its beautiful countryside, whisky and local food. The village has all that is required including a doctors, shops, swimming pool and fishing on the Spey, and there is a bus connection via Elgin to the rest of Scotland.

The house and garden are being brought back from a lengthy period of very limited maintenance. Internal and external walls will be re-plastered using traditional methods. Dry stone retaining terrace walls need rebuilding and the two lime mortared walled garden walls need significant repointing.

The garden is being brought back into cultivation using conservative methods with a view to supplying the house: The orchard has already been replanted using traditional Scottish species and the kitchen garden is being re-instated this year. Fruit cages and poultry will follow in due course.

The stone outbuilding, which used to be used to shelter the poor of the parish, needs the roof repointing and the staircase needs the attention of a carpenter.

Help is required with the garden, with maintaining and repairing the walls; repairing and maintaining the buildings, paths, with painting, plastering and rendering. We will try and work to your strengths but the programme of work will take priority over personal preference.

Suit an individual or couple. Accommodation would be in the (no-smoking) house with food provided in exchange for 25 hours a week each. Helpers will need to be physically fit and preferably used to some form of manual work.

Your stay will be reviewed after the first week and if it is not proving mutually acceptable your stay will be brought to a conclusion at that point.
