* LET'S GROW SOME BEAUTIFUL FOOD *

Snowy River Farms is committed to providing consumers with pasture-raised, heritage products created in a humane and ecologically friendly manner. We strive to use what nature has given us to fuel our bodies, minds, and souls. Our livestock are grass fed and are raised on non-GMO grains and our heirloom produce and herbs are grown naturally without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or biosolids and focus greatly on companion planting methods.

We sell meat, eggs, and produce on farm and also offer CSA shares to consumers in the Halifax area. Our livestock that we have on farm include Katahdin Sheep, Berkshire Pigs (and crossbreds), meat-type poultry during the free-range season, and many varieties of Heritage Chickens. We are also hoping to get a couple of dual purpose, heritage breed cows this summer to raise for meat and milk production.

WWOOFers will live with us in our farm house or tenting on property along with our Cat (Fiddle), and 2 dogs (Dusty - Retriever Mix, and Etnie - Great Dane) and spend the days feeding the animals, planting and harvesting the garden, making weekly CSA deliveries to the city, cleaning pens, and learning as much about natural heritage farming as they can fill thier heads with! This year we are renovating our barn on property so there is lots of opportunity to learn about carpentery as well. We are also in the process of creating new sausage recipes and having them approved so there will be lots of taste testing! The town of Shubenacadie is beautiful and there are many opportunities for WWOOFers to enjoy the surrounding area during their down time including the Shubencadie Wildlife Park and Tidal Bore Rafting to name a couple.

We are a "refined sugar free household" and do not consume packaged foods so if you are interested in learning how to cook wholesome, flavourful meals from scratch we would love to share our recipes with you including homemade pasta, yogurt, ice cream, teas, and cheese! We do not cook glueten free or vegan meals, however; we are happy to accomodate vegetarians (we do process some of our own birds on site and we may ask for help in dressing out poultry during your stay).

This summer we will be planting approximately 1.5 acres for our CSA which is comprised of 100% heriloom varitiety herbs and vegetables. Our pigs are due to farrow in early spring and mid-winter so we will need help moving our girls around and putting up new fences before their piglets present themselves to us! Our sheep are also due for lambing in February and chicks are hatching weekly starting in May so there is no shortage of baby animals around here! We have recently purchased a few new greenhouses and will need help setting them up this fall before the ground freezes for use next year. We pasture all of our livestock and would love to share with you our ideas of how to create happy, healthy, nutritious and delicious meats!

We have our three year old daughter with us on farm and she is full of energy so if you do not enjoy working around children then this is not the place for you.
