This is a 315-hectare privately-owned wetland and important bird habitat, the wetland is protected under a QEII open space covenant and is regarded as the largest and most important privately owned wetland in New Zealand!
The wetland consists of ponds, water channels, swamplands and a couple of re-vegetating islands and hosts over 60 species of birds which live in, or regularly visit the wetland.

In exchange for accommodation we require helpers for maintenance,up keep and enhancement of the wetlands. The wetlands is managed by a non-profit organisation (A Charitable Trust not a business - with minimal funding) unfortunately we are unable to provide food or wi-fi.
However, by choosing an exchange at Sinclair Wetlands your help will have a positive environmental impact, rather than creating a monetary gain for a business. Along the way you will discover what makes conservation in N.Z. so unique.

Work can include: weed eradication, track maintenance, weed releasing, tree planting, nursery and plant work, maintenance, predator trapping, grounds keeping etc.

Come and enjoy staying in a peaceful, eco-friendly and important conservation environment. The volunteer house is well equipped, quiet and private (but can be cold- bring warm clothes!). There are more bush walks nearby, and we are close to the Catlins and the Southern scenic route.

Your host's are a friendly young couple in their late 20's/early 30's who enjoy nature, outdoor activities and sports, photography and art, good food and encouraging a sustainable world!

We are located 50km from Dunedin city and is set among rural farms on the Taieri Plains (close to the airport) - you will need to arrange your own transport. Allow 35 minutes drive time from Dunedin city.

*** Please come prepared for working in the outdoors, and an adaptability for living in a conservative manner, warm clothes are essential - our houses are cold!

We take volunteers on each Sunday, this prevents disturbance to guests and means we can give one lot of orietation/briefings - when planning a stay please try align your arrival for a Sunday
