What we am doing: we are having fun setting up an organic smallholding.
Where we are: we are in some beautiful mountains 650m up and about 25 km from the sea in Asturias, northern Spain.

What help do we need: All practical help and skills welcome. However at the top of the list are tasks such as fencing, gardening, repairing paths and dry stone walls. also repairs to buildings and landscaping. (Guidance provided.) .

Power and Communication: we are off the grid, so we are using renewable energy but we have a generator for back up and power tools. There is a good signal on the Spanish mobile phone network: ( Movistar ). so internet could be available on your phone/laptop etc

Accommodation: Accommodation is basic. Think of it as camping. it is. we have some good tents plus shower and washing facilities and a couple of caravans. Also my classic caravan serves as a kitchen dining room. Vegetarian food is provided, though you can self cater, or do a bit of both, your choice. meat eaters are also welcome.

What help you give: Hours and days are to be arranged. There is some flexibility so please ask, but 5 hours a day 5 days a week should be taken as a minimum guide.
Amenities: There is a shop and 2 bars in one of the local villages 3km away.on foot or mountain bike.

a taxi from the local station (infiesto)will cost you 16.00 euros
which connects to Oviedo and Santander operated by Feve and is about a quarter of an hour away by car. The local town has all usual stuff shops, library, swimming pool (outdoor), bars, buses and trains and we visit at least once a week so we could arrange lifts occasionally.

Free time: For recreation in this region of Spain there is canoeing, walking, climbing, caving, skiing and mountain biking and many beautiful beaches.and drinking the local cider! For more info check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asturias

What you should bring with you: a positive attitude, the desire to teach, learn, and have fun getting stuff done, Warm practical outdoor clothes, waterproofs, boots, hat and gloves. Some old work clothes gloves etc are available so don't stress about that but bring your own if you can, that way they'll fit better. we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Gerro and Sammy :-)
