Energetic Peer Mentors aged 16-30 needed
6-9 Month Placements available
1 placement remaining from now until March 2018, more placements available from April 2018 onwards.

Who Are We?
Cyrenians Communities provide 16 – 30 year olds who are homeless with a safe, secure and fun place to live. We have two residential communities; one within the beautiful city of Edinburgh and the other a working farm just outside of the city.

What Will You Do?
Be a member of our community! Live alongside other young people and create a fun, secure and stimulating space. This will help young people develop skills and confidence to move forward in life. By creating positive experiences you will help move residents from negative experiences of the past to a positive future.

Activities include: cooking and shopping with community members; decorating; playing games; accompanying young people to meetings with doctors, social workers or other professionals; providing mature/calm advice; being sympathetic to a resident in crisis; and supporting community members to take part in activities or placements. At the farm, you will also be involved with caring for our chickens and encouraging residents to participate in opportunities on the farm.

This is a six or a nine month placement and you’ll be fully involved in community life during days, evenings and weekends. You’ll have 2.5 days free each week to spend however (and wherever!) you like.

Who Are You?
We are looking for fun, enthusiastic, creative young people – 16 to 30 – to be role models to our residents. You can connect with challenging young people and keep personal boundaries. You are patient, tolerant, have independent living skills, open minded, calm and emotionally strong. As a team player you will work with your fellow volunteers, but also able to use your initiative.

A good level of written and verbal English is required.

What will you get from us?

Accommodation, food, some travel costs, weekly pocket money, holiday grant, leaving grant and a written reference. Daily support from our staff provided.

We require applicants to complete an application form, references, interview and gain a police disclosure check.

Applicants from outside the EU requiring a visa can apply via our partner organisation called I.V.S (International Voluntary Service, part of the SCI network) or
