This zoo is located on the edge of the Daintree National Park, 25km north of Mossman and 5km south of the turnoff to Cape Tribulation. Wonga Beach is about a 35min walk and Mossman is about a 15min drive (we drive into town each morning for anyone wishing to venture in).

The Zoo is set in 4.5 hectares (10 acres) of tropical gardens and comprises several guest B&B style accommodation rooms (including a large pool) and some 120 species of Australian native birds, mammals and reptiles including crocodiles, kangaroos, cassowaries, emus, dingos and wombats to name a few.

Volunteers typically assist with daily feeding of animals and birds, cleaning enclosures, gardening, painting, light construction work and at times, assisting with the preparation of the accommodation rooms. We are currently building new enclosures and would love to hear from people who can work with their hands to help with these projects. Hours of work are typically 7.30am to 1.00pm or 12.00pm to 5.00pm with a tea break. Every 2nd night 30mins for night feeding is also required.

What we will provide you:
• A genuine Australian Native Zoo experience
• Poolside accommodation, fans provided.
• Access to the Pool and Zoo at your own leisure
. Fishing in the river on the property
• Great food; all the fresh meat and vegetables that you can eat
• Free Wifi at the reception area
• We will pick you up from Mossman and drop you back off in Mossman, if required.

What we expect in return:
• That you are a genuine, honest and hard working person
• That you have a positive can-do attitude
• That you are willing to get your hands dirty, get wet when it rains etc.
• That you are comfortable around animals (no phobias of birds etc.)
• That you are fluent in English and can understand general directions / instructions
• That you are required to stay for a min of three weeks.
• That you have a sense of humour and don’t take things to heart (Important!)
• THAT YOU DO NOT SMOKE
• That you do not have any special dietary requirements ie NO VEGETARIANS.

15 years of working with volunteers has taught us a thing or two. Most have been great people here for the right reasons (some of which we now call friends) and others unfortunately that were largely looking for ‘free accommodation and food.’ At times volunteering at the Zoo can be hard work; we are not a charity and strongly encourage you read above in detail prior to coming to stay. Our feedback is testament to the great experience you can have, but also the potential experience if the description above doesn’t sound like you!

Happy Travels.
Gil and Donna
