Seeking helpers for 2018 to come and work in our busy family & groups hostel!

Dates Available:
1st March - 1st April

*** All volunteers will be required to register on this link: https://volunteer.yha.org.uk/profile/YHACanterbury
Please let us know when you have completed the registration.***

YHA Canterbury welcomes a wide range of guests here, from families and individuals to groups of young people from schools and youth groups. You will be able to see the difference you make to their experience every day. We are an experienced host if you are looking for a residential volunteering placement for up to 12 weeks or needing to complete a student placement as part of your course.

You will be able to develop your skills, gain 'real life' work experience, as well as build some great memories, make new friends and will be involved in all aspects of hospitality at the youth hostel. Daily tasks include catering to guests for either breakfast, lunch or dinner and housekeeping - making beds, hovering, cleaning toilets & showers. We also maintain the garden ourselves and ensure guests receive a high level of customer service at all times. You will work closely alongside the team to complete the tasks for the day.

We ask that helpers work for five days out of seven with two days off each week. The hours could include evenings, weekend and Bank Holiday working undertaken on a rota basis. In your free time you will be able to travel and explore the local area and our hostel team will have plenty of recommendations for you. Volunteers receive free accommodation either in a private room or shared (single sex dormitory) room depending upon availability. We will always tell you about the accommodation provision before you join the team.

We offer up to £60 towards the cost of your travel to get to the hostel. Volunteers can purchase discounted food or use our self-catering kitchen to prepare their own meals. Discounted food is available to volunteers in this role for £2 per course to be payable weekly at the hostel. Please note that all hostel support roles are on a voluntary (unpaid) basis and we do not enter into a contractual agreement with individuals or placing organisations. If you are coming from outside the UK we recommend you purchase travel and medical insurance and please note you will need Right to Work in the UK, we do not act as a sponsor for visa applications.

YHA has now been awarded accredited status and is now an Investing in Volunteers organisation. Investing in Volunteers supports the commitment of YHA to offer a safe, enjoyable and supportive environment for all of its people- both staff and volunteers.

Some information about Canterbury:
A fantastic city hostel, located on the main road into Canterbury, so an excellent base to explore the delights of this historical city. With direct high-speed train services into London and the main entry route into/out of the UK to Europe, this really is a great stop over point.

You’ll find the Roman-walled city of Canterbury crammed with history and culture. The accommodation at YHA Canterbury is close to the centre and popular with groups, individuals and school trips alike. Attractions include the cathedral, abbey, museums, guided tours and theatres - great for a cheap city break or weekend away. The hostel is within easy reach of the North Downs Way and Pilgrims Way.

WE ARE CLOSED OVER CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR.
