Drefseryd Gård

The area around Drefseryd says to be one of Scandinavia's most beautiful places and it´s located just outside Gränna in the deep fairy-like John Bauer forest of Småland. Our Farm´s history goes back all the way to the 18th century. Today it´s a small family business with agriculture, forestry and of course our animals: sheep and cattle. There´s also bees, hens, rabbits, horses and of course cats and dogs. Besides usual farm work we arrange workshops and events like building wooden fences and pollarding. In our small shop we sell our own produce to local residents or visiting tourists. Summertime Gränna is frequently visited by tourists from all over.

The family consists of farmer Petter and his wife Jenny and a 13 year old son (and three grown up sons in their 20s visiting now and then).

We´re easy going people and HelpX gives us an opportunity to see/meet the world without leaving home. And of course also get some extra help with different projects. For obvious reasons we cannot take long vacations. :) As a farmer weather and animals runs your life but we like to take shorter trips and are more than happy to show our volunteers this beautiful area and our way of life.

We offer volunteers a (hopefully) pleasant stay with varied tasks depending on season, weather and of course your interests and skills. For example building projects, fencing, shearing sheep, carpentry work, caring for animals, harvesting hay, gardening, cutting firewood, training horses and maintenance of machines and buildings. If you know your away around tractors, chainsaws and other tools that’s great but not necessary. You don´t have to be a well-trained professional but we do expect our volunteers to be mature, independent and interested to learn.

Accommodation is offered in our guestroom or if you prefer a tent in the garden that could be arranged too. You'll live as a family member in our old house with internet, TV, laundry a s f. If you like you can bring bedlinnen, towels and such otherwise we can provide that. Also bring good working clothes and shoes.

We are located in a rural area and driving license is good but not necessary. Public transportation is 6 km away, nearby towns are Jönköping 30 km and Gränna 10 km. We often visit Jönköping/Gränna so you won´t be stuck in the middle of nowhere all the time. We work long hours but don´t expect our volunters to do the same unless they want to. 4-5 hours work per day, 5 days a week is expected but this also means you have to be able to find things to do by yourself on your free time. Minimum stay is 4 weeks starting with a trial week.

We host volunters all year but please remember that Sweden during autum and winter can be challangeing: dark, cold and often rain or snow.

There are lot of things to do and see nearby especially if you´re interested in nature: fishing lakes, hiking trails, forrests and nature reserves.
