We try to live as self sufficiently as we can on our picturesque farm 12 km from the town of Scottsdale (and 10km from Bridestowe Lavender farm) On the farm we have have sheep, hens, geese, turkeys and guinea fowl, we maintain a large vegetable garden and a small orchard. We also keep bees and sell our honey locally.
We have a large dam with a resident platypus and and 30 acres of natural bush. Lots of wallabies are to be seen around the farm in the evenings, as well as other native wildlife. We also have a friendly cat called Charlie.
Our home is a comfortable older style farmhouse with tranquil rural views. Your bedroom has one double and one single bed plus a desk, and is within the house, with shared bathroom. As we produce most of our own food we eat a lot of lamb, eggs and of course our own vegetables and fruit, and enjoy hot spicy food but happy to cook vegetarian meals or leave out the spice if you let us know beforehand.
In your free time you can borrow one of our bicycles to explore the area and there are nice country lanes nearby if you like walking or jogging. There is a canoe plus a flying fox to play around with down at our dam, which is great for a dip on a hot day.
We are on a rural bus route between Launceston and Scottsdale which operates a few times a day Monday to Friday. We have satellite wireless internet, available for use between 11pm and 1pm.
About us - we are a married couple in our 50's. In addition to tending our gardens and animals, I am writing a book about our self sufficient lifestyle and my husband works online part time as a mechanical draughtsman. We don't often leave the farm, apart from a trip to stock up on supplies each week so cannot take you out sightseeing but there really is a lot to enjoy right here :)
We currently do not need any help with farm work but we ARE looking for qualified/experienced tradesmen to help us with our house renovation. Roofers, Bricklayers, Plumbers & Tilers, Carpet layers or anyone with any building experience, are all very welcome. Sorry we cannot take any helpers not experienced in this type work,at the moment.
One to 2 week stays preferred. Will consider 2 helpers.
