Our goal is to to become as self sufficient as possible from a food perspective. We are currently raising heritage breed Chickens, and have a mixed flock of Ducks, Turkeys and Geese as well. In the Spring of 2015 we will be acquiring a few sheep or pigs. The garden is a work in progress as we trial and error what will be most valuable as a food source. As you can see I am currently attending Culinary Arts School, so good food should not be a problem.

Work could involve all aspects of homesteading, such as tending livestock, helping with construction of raised garden beds and "cold frames" for winter gardening, weeding and vegetable gardening, building shelters, paddocks and fences, painting, getting firewood split and stacked, preserving food stores for winter, beekeeping, herb gardening, making soap and cheese and other tasks that arise on the farm. Plans also include forest gardening (permaculture) in the wooded part of the property.

We would expect 3-5 hours of work per day. If possible, stays would 2-3 weeks minimum and longer if the fit is right. We are eager to host Helpers from April through October.

We will provide you with meals and access to the internet. Your accommodation will be a camper with Satellite Television, you will enjoy your own place and privacy, however the house will also be open for meals, showers, company and etc. We do have Dogs and Cats in the house. We have a sun room with a hot tub over looking the meadow, and I have plans to build a sauna onto the sun room this summer.

The farmstead is bordered by a trout creek, and is a mix of meadow (1.5 Hectares) and wooded area, backing onto a Christmas Tree Farm. The nearest village (New Germany) is 6 km away, the nearest town (Bridgewater) is 25 km away. The UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg (lots of German and sailing heritage) is also nearby and Halifax is an hour away. The South Shore of NS is known for its beautiful coastline, antique shops, wineries and sandy beaches. There are multiple vineyards and farmers markets in the vicinity. If you're interested in staying with us, please don't hesitate to contact us.
