LOCATION

Cast Away
Gromindolac 30
21465 Gromin Dolac
Otok Hvar
GPS coördinates: 43°07'37.2"N 16°44’00.9"E

Cast Away is located in the very remote, small village of Gromin Dolac in the south of the island of Hvar. Our paradise is only accessible by a 3.6km dirt road that starts in Zavala. The first 3km are fine, but the last 600m (after the village itself) gets quite rough, and is not recommendable if you come with your own car or with a rental car without four wheel drive. Cast Away, therefore, offers a free shuttle that can pick you up and drop you off in either Jelsa or Starigrad.

Bear in mind that you will also have to walk the last 200m along a pathway towards Gromin Dolac’s main beach because there’s no access for cars. There are no signs, keeping in tune with the hidden, cast away beach vibe. This keeps out curious daytrippers and guarantees comfort and privacy.

The access may be rather difficult, but therein lies the beauty of Cast Away. It is hard to find, but this is exactly what makes this place so unique and serene. Prepare yourself for a wonderful secluded location surrounded by nature, beautiful coves & beaches, walking & biking trails and an authentic Dalmatian lifestyle. Cast Away is the ultimate place to escape the busy, chaotic tourist crowds, and to reinvigorate yourself in a natural environment, with gorgeous views and the sound of the waves, sea birds, and an orchestra of crickets at twilight.

Distances
(By car)

Zavala: 10 minutes - 3.6km
Jelsa: 25 minutes - 10km

TRANSPORTATION

Car ferries sail many times per day from Split to Stari Grad & from Drvenik to Sucuraj. The car ferry is the cheapest option and you don’t need any reservation. Drvenik - Sucuraj is a lot cheaper but also a lot further and only recommandable if you come by car. You can find all the prices & timetables on Jadrolinija's website.

Another option to come to the island of Hvar is with the high speed connections by catamarans (only passengers) from Split, Brac, Korcula, Vis, Mljet & Dubrovnik. You can find all the prices & timetables on the websites of Jadrolinija & Krilo.

ABOUT ME

I jumped from a plane in New Zealand, swam with giant sea turtles in Galapagos, nomadized with Bedouin tribes in the Wadi Rum desert… This is my life!

Growing up in little old Belgium, I was never a big traveler. I didn’t take my first trip overseas until I was 23. But when my dad took me on a crazy roadtrip through Thailand, my whole world changed. I remember feeling being on a total different planet. From that moment on I was hooked on travel. All I wanted to do was explore, see more of the world and learn more about the people in it and so I left on a bunch of trips!

And that got to me… after working for the Belgian television and living in our Western society for 15 long years, I felt the need to break out and go back to the essence of being, back... to the essence of life!
So in 2013, I took a gap year and jumped into an amazing adventure around the world. That was the most amazing year of my life and changed me forever! I got lost in a jungle, wandered for hours in deserts, met all kinds of amazing people from all around the world and realized how beautiful people can be. I remember staying with a very well off fellow in an ocean view condo in Hawaii one day and with a poor and humble family and all their relatives in a tiny little home in a dusty community in Fiji the very next day. Such extreme experiences but all wonderful in their own way.
When I came home, I felt that I just couldn’t fit in society anymore, so I wondered… Could there be anything more perfect than to host travellers and share my passion for adventure in one of the most beautiful and secluded places on this planet? I guess it was karma that my parents bought their own little piece of paradise back in the 70’s. So it was clear… I quit my job and sold my house to finish our family’s lifelong dream and share this beautiful seaside paradise with likeminded travellers to reconnect with nature, enjoy simple things in life and rediscover the beauty of true human contact & new friendships.

So be welcome 'coz in the end we are no strangers, just friends that haven't met in person yet !

If you have any other questions, please... feel free to ask me :)

THE ISLAND

Scenic creeks & beaches, crystal clear water, unspoilt natural beauty... these are a few things that the beautiful island of Hvar has to offer. Known as one of world's 10 most beautiful islands, the 'lavender' island welcomes you not only with a pleasant smell of lavender, sage & rosemary but invites everyone to discover it's rich mix of culture, traditions & architecture.

Set between the famous cities of Dubrovnik & Split, it's not only Croatia's most famous & sunniest island but has the perfect location for numerous daytrips or to travel to 'must see' islands such as Korcula, Vis & Brac.

Towns on the island

Jelsa
For families with nice restaurants, cocktail bars, souvenir shops, etc.

Starigrad
Old town with a plenty of history, pittoresk & narrow streets, nice restaurants, cocktail bars, souvenir shops, etc.

Hvar town
Old, historic city with a sparkling culture and amazing nightlife. Hvar city is the most famous party place in Croatia hosting the notorious Ultra Europe in July and withseveral world-known beach clubs such as Carpe Diem Beach & Hula Hula. Hvar is also known as a jetset destination with extravagant yachts, exquisite sea food & worldclass wines.

Towns such as Starigrad & Jelsa are definitely worth a visit. If you like really remote, authentic local places I would recommend some small villages inland such as Pitve, Vrisnik, Dol, Svirce, etc. Ivan Dolac, Zavala, Sv Nedelja are also very cosy and not so touristy.

Feel the real Dalmatia and explore those small villages, taste the home made local wine, taste some fresh olive oil or fresh lavender... And don't forget the delicious home made Prosek!

This place is truly & literally a hidden gem! It's rather difficult to access but it has a unique & wonderful location! Away from the touristic hustle in the middle of nature, bording the Adriatic Sea with many beautiful private beaches, islands & undescribable views.
I will organize day trips to the UNESCO town of Starigrad & Hvar, advice you some of the best spots on the island with small, hidden, unspoiled & uncrowded beaches, beautiful mountain walking trails, the finest local restaurants, local wine & fish festivals, wine tastings at one of the many local wineries, the sizzling nightlife in Hvar (Hula Hula, Carpe Diem, ...), the best cocktail bars, etc. Depending of what you like to do during your free time!

I'm in love with this island and can't wait to share the real beauty of it with you, guys!
