Chateau Dumas is a 22-acre estate in southwest France, one hour north of Toulouse airport. It comprises an 18th Century Chateau with 12 bedrooms and a separate building, the Coach House, with an apartment, two studios and several unrestored spaces. There is a swimming pool and games area.
Chateau Dumas operates as a seasonal business between June and October. We run residential creative workshops in a range of crafts from dressmaking and millinery to basket-weaving and floristry.
Chateau Dumas is owned and managed by Lizzie Hulme and supported by a team of 7 people, most of whom are employed for the season only.
We are looking for 3 people to help at Chateau Dumas in exchange for board and lodging from 6th May 2017 onwards for 4 to 6 weeks. The helpers will be expected to work around 4-5 hours a day for 5 days a week with 2 full days off. You will have your own comfortable bedroom in the Chateau but you may be asked to share a bathroom with one other person.
The Chateau has wi-fi, a range of DVDs, TV, library, swimming pool, table tennis, table football, all of which you can use. You will be able to explore the beautiful area during your stay. There are picturesque towns and villages within easy reach, for example, St Antonin-Noble-Val, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Cahors, Toulouse and Bordeaux (both easily accessible by train). You will live as part of a family and we will take you around and show you as much as we can during your stay.
The roles available are:
Role 1 (2 people):
Help in the garden: weeding, window box planting, tidying, etc. Light sanding and oiling teak furniture, plus other light outdoor prep. Help to prepare the Chateau: cleaning, polishing, ironing, etc.
Role 2 (1 person):
We’d love to find someone creative who enjoys sewing! There are curtains to mend and cushions to make as well as other creative projects and so if you’ve got an eye for design and are handy with a sewing machine or needle, we’d love to hear from you. We have all the kit you’ll need!
We take it in turns with shopping and preparing meals for the team. It doesn’t matter if you are not a terribly confident cook as we have a file of tried and tested recipes that are all easy to follow.
Owner, Lizzie, will be on site most of the time as well as two Chateau guardians, Elizabeth and Philip, who have been living in the Coach House apartment through the winter.
We are looking for people who are:
¥ Focused and able to complete tasks within an agreed and manageable timeframe
¥ Enthusiastic and get satisfaction from a job well done
¥ Thorough and efficient
¥ Curious, open, nice to be around and a good teamworker
If you are interested in being part of the pre-season team at the Chateau, please get in touch with us with some information about yourself.
