Hi potential helper, welcome to our farm on the beautiful island Samsø!!

We are really happy that you clicked in here to read more about us and the farm. And if you're ready for some good, hard physical work and to learn a lot - please read the whole description.

The people:
Johannes leased the farm in 2013 and ran it for 3 seasons with a lot of passion and with great results :-)

This season the farm is run by Rene. Rene has been part of the team running the farm from 2013 and worked in organic farming before, so he has a lot of experience! He is from Czech and speaks perfect english.

On the farm we work with entrepreneurship and do a lot of projects and experimental practices. Together we want to explore how we can create a modern, economically viable and, for all living things (also humans), sustainable farm. This is partly inspired by the the permacultural movement and ideas of building natural resources and supporting more biodiversity :-)

The farm:
2017 is going to be our first year, but the farm and it’s soil have been organic since 1987 and is famous as a pioneering organic farm in Denmark. We have tree focuses this year:
- diverse/small scale production for our farmshop(s)
- Keep the CSA running and improving both summer and winter CSA
- Renting out cabins for tourist doing the summer period
The farm is on 9 hectares and we grow on 5 of them - the rest is clover, pig-pens and buildings. We have over 100 different vegetables, berries, herbs and fruits.
There is also 400 sq.m green house where we grow tomatoes, cucumber, 15 different chilies and other ”exotic” crops.

What you can expect:
To stay for at least 3 weeks or more.
Hard physical work, learning (a lot) about vegetables and community/people-power, the good island life with unique nature and friendly people all around!

We will try our best to accommodate you so you feel like you get the most out of your stay. Also if you have special interests or skills you want to explore/live out.
There will be a diverse spectra of things to do, depending on the season. You can expect seeding, weeding, harvesting, packing, filling up the farm shop(s), maintenance on buildings and land, deliver vegetables to the islands restaurants and greeting visitors, tourist, and SCA members :-)

We provide three meals a day. The diet is vegetarian/vegan and is mostly from our own farm. We eat all meals together, but scedual can vary a bit depending on seasons.

We provide beds in a nice house with kitchen, showers, toilets and an old piano ;-) You can also bring your own tent.
- Bring own sheets and towel.

What we expect:
- 30/35 working hours/week. The schedule can vary in regards of the weather and season, but we usually start work at 7/8 in the morning.

It's important for us to write that we are a professional farm with lots of work to get done. If you want a chill and relaxed vacation picking flowers and pat a goat - look at some of the other hosts. During the 6-8 hours/day you work we expect that you give your best and work hard if needed. The tasks your given might be very monotonous, ex. weeding on your knees all day. Farm work is hard work at times, but also very satisfying. As long as your up for the challenge - the food tastes better and you sleep like a baby :)

What to do in spare time:
Samsø is well known for it’s fantastic nature, it’s long beaches and the most sun hours in Denmark! Borrow a bike and the ocean is only a few minutes away. Hang out with the other helpers and the other guests and people on the farm. We might arrange a few common activities and excursions throughout the week.

Insurance: Make sure your own travel insurance covers work and sparetime on a farm :-)
