I run a yacht charter business and a croft on the Isle of Eigg with 21 sheep, 2 chickens and a cat. I have a teenage son at high school. My croft is on the NW side of Eigg with wonderful views of Rum. Singing Sands is a short walk away. There is a vegetable garden and polytunnel where we grow veg for ourselves and the yacht charters. I have a tree planting project. I am be developing yurt accommodation during the summer months. I need volunteers to help with croft based projects and I need help on the boat at change overs and sometimes for sailing. Throughout the year I need volunteers for both long and short stints. Take a look further down at volunteering opportunities coming up.
No smokers please.
The work on the croft and boat is physically demanding and volunteers need to be strong and capable. Anyone with good cooking skills considered too.

I am offering camping/caravan/IEHT volunteer house (Nov-March) and food in exchange for help. There is wifi.

Volunteer opportunities coming up:

2018 April to July Croft and Boat
I need long term volunteers to help on the croft and with the boat from now till July 2018. Croft projects: bracken control, water system, yurt and the vegetables.
On the croft there are daily tasks with sheep, chickens and the garden. There will be some boat chores and sailing days too.

Eigg is a fantastic island with many events especially in summer months. The island is off grid, producing all it's own electricity. There is a vibrant social life, plenty of creative people and activities, along with the natural beauty, wildlife and heritage of the place to enjoy and explore.
I try and arrange that all my volunteers get a chance to sail on Selkie. Some of you are very boat orientated but for others it is a new experience.

The croft is 4 miles from the pier which is the hub of the island social life. It's a good idea to either bring your bike or like walking! I encourage people to get out and interact with the other folk on the island. Eigg has a big volunteer community with folk from all over the world and it's a great opportunity to get to know the island and it's visitors.

Allergies: In the past I have hosted some volunteers who suffer from hayfever. They had failed to tell me of their allergies and/or thought they could manage them with medication. In every case this was a disaster for both volunteer and myself. I cannot stress strongly enough that if you get allergies, sadly this is not the place for you.
