The Veggie Patch is a tiny business trying to grow fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables without the use of chemicals in a 2 acre field near Strachur on Loch Fyne.
Initially we need a handyperson to fix up the caravan and stay in it for free. It is warm and dry has low pressure running water and electricity. We would pay for materials and supply tools.
There are 24 chickens & 11 call ducks, a huge polytunnel, a fruit cage, coppice, orchard, veggie patches and ponds. All surrounded by wildlife friendly/edible hedging and or fedging. There are worm farms, various compost heaps, a comfrey patch and a liquid feed station.
Kate & Russell Glasgow are interested in offering work experience helping us in the early days of our attempts to start a market garden. We are influenced by nature, organics, permaculture and no-dig.
We offer a taste of life in the countryside and methods of gardening without the use of chemicals, there are lots of useful reference books here. We would provide food and basic accommodation in the caravan.
Once the caravan is up to scratch helpers can choose from many jobs/projects such as mulching, weeding, making & spreading compost, moving hens, erecting small polytunnel, re-glaze an old greenhouse, improve polytunnel irrigation, dig ditches, plant hedges, fedges, beach lookout shelter dam stream, make raised beds, harvesting produce, make bumble bee homes, make bog garden, tie up fruit canes, pruning, sowing, planting, mulching, hen keeping, liquid feeds, worm farms, creating pond and wildlife areas, make bird and bat boxes, build sheds, fencing and general tidying up.
