Our ‘Eco Hobby Farm’ is 15 acres in size (6ha) and is located in the picturesque Huon Valley, Tasmania’s apple region. We propose to build a timber frame straw bale home in the near future and are currently constructing farm infrastructure in preparation.

Already we have nearly or completed 2 general purpose sheds, a chicken shed, a water tank stand, storage facility and vegetable garden - all out of roundwood timber from our land and recycled building materials sourced locally + a few pallets!

Currently we need ‘crafty’ persons who are good working with their hands. Hand tool experience, chainsaws, DIY construction etc. Endless projects big and small, currently we are finishing off a water tank stand started last year.

And of course we need experienced hands to work in and on the vegetable garden. One of the forthcoming projects is a poly tunnel, starting soon!

The ability to work independently AND as a team is essential, likewise to work efficiently and affectively with focus.

BACKPACKERS should you be seeking days to make up your 88 for the second year VISA, all work here contributes to this. For the right person, as others have, the full 88 days can be completed here. Average stay is a month, minimum 1 week. We are in the middle of the fruit picking region for those who need to go off and earn money at different times.

We are off-grid, the property 'seems remote’ when here though we are only 13k to Huonville/ 35km to Hobart. Meals are shared, likewise preparation and cleaning, we are essentially vegetarian and have a composting toilet and bush shower.

You will not incur any expenses whilst staying on the property, all food and accommodation provided. A full days work is expected, hours will depend on the days jobs, resources and weather.

Access to generator to charge electronic gear is every 2-3 days, wi-fi access for emails is available, phone reception is mixed depending provider.

We have our own creek, swimming holes, a number of hammocks, fully functional kitchen, lounge with cooktop combustion stove. Camp dog ‘Winnie' is now 1yr old, she keeps our free-range chickens in check, Pelverata Falls is opposite our gate for keen walkers and to get more fresh air!

Alcohol or drugs are not permitted on site.
