Starting Dec 2015.
A private retreat for international travelers for many years, with many a night around the evening bonfire being like a U.N gathering, the business was closed and put on hold when the owner had to move to the city for cancer treatment. She survived and returned to the property a year later to find it had been totally ransacked and pillaged in her absence.

I need a helping hand. It was 10 acres of landscaped trees, ponds and camp sites. It's currently 10 acres of Jurassic Park like growth that needs to be tamed. If you have experience using tractors, chainsaws or ATV's, it sure would be a huge help.If you have skills in music or cooking that would be awesome.!! If I'm chainsawing or operating a tractor all day, any helper who cooks dinner and puts the coffee pot on is most appreciated.

We might work half a day and finish early to race to the beach because the fish are biting...we might work hard out for a day getting a project completed then take the next couple of days off to explore the area. It totally depends on who's helping, what skills they have and enjoying sharing getting the job done.

A camping style Base Camp will provide a communal kitchen and individual tent sites so that everyone has privacy. When large scale projects are completed we usually celebrate by having a spit (roasting an entire pig or lamb over a fire), cracking open a crate (drink kiwi beer)and have a quick game of Rugby or Frisbee golf.

In Dec a start will be made by clearing all the wind blown trees and chainsaw milling them into planks for the feast table. Pathways around the ponds, camp sites, feast mound area and the area where what remains of the main house will be cleared of broken equipment and machinery that was scattered during the pillaging. Knee to waist high grass covers everything, so what was scattered has to be removed before the area can be slashed and mown.

The main house was burnt to the ground, so I'm going to clean up the area, rake it over, plant a tree in the middle of where the house stood and pick a new spot to rebuild.

It would be so amazing to have a helping hand and anyone who helps is definitely getting a V.I.P pass to the Broomsticks Opening Party. Least I can do, besides cooking a traditional Kiwi roast for you. Doesn't matter what skills you have, anyone who is willing to help is more than welcome.

What can I offer you in exchange?
If you stay for a few days or longer, you will learn valuable skills that you'll be able to pass on to others as you continue your travels. Things like how to use a ride on lawn mower, how to catch fish, how to spit roast a whole pig over hot coals.

You'll be able to network with other helpers giving a hand as they travel through and you can use Broomsticks as a base to meet back up with other travelers you have met on your journey. If you come back and bring friends with you...I'll bake you a batch of the famous kiwi scone.

And ... I'm a great interpreter for explaining things that aren't in the Travel Guide that you'll need to know for your journey through New Zealand, like pub pool table etiquette, when it's rude to offer a tip and most importantly, marae protocol.

Looking for helpers starting Dec 2015.
Thank you
