Eco farming and tourism. !!!
The summer season is coming to an end and we will be fully back on the job while the next 3 months will be a lot more comfortable to do physical work then in the heat of the summer. For the coming period we will be doing building work, maintenance all over the place (spent a few weeks to get the treehouse ready for the winter season) and there are many other little projects in and outside, installing a solar hotwater system on the main building, clearing land and landscaping, preparation work for planting finally after all the years of pioneering we found the time to start a vegetable garden needs a bit of care too.
Building wise, our first project is to finish the roof on one of our buildings, any enthusiastic helpers are more than welcome...!!! There will be carpentry, stonework ( masonry ) and more technical jobs.
If you prefer work on the land....donít be shy ;-) there is plenty of it!!
See further below, for our non seasonal description.
We will be going on with the renovation of our three old farm buildings if you like to be involved in that.......?? very welcome!!
We are looking for carpenters and people that like to do basic construction, technical stuff, and people that are more into finishing work!!!
For the coming year we have an organic walnut plantation on the program! 4 Hectares (10 acres ) of land has been cleared, first job is a fence, then the trees will go in the ground and irrigation to be installed.
Are you enthusiastic and not afraid of getting your hands dirty and would like to experience life in the middle of stunning mountain nature, we're looking for you to come and help us to build up our new project together!
See our blog link above for a blog from a HelpXers that stayed a while with us.
We're in the south-east of France, on the Spanish border, surrounded by mountains, forest and a little river to swim in.
To get an idea of the place, have a look on our website.
An other ongoing project a bit further away from where we actually live is clearing the land, cutting trees for timber, processing wood, making terraces and access roads, this is mainly a winter job.
We offer you accommodation either in a caravan or in our small house with kitchen area, warm shower, a wood burner, and on the first floor a sleeping room and during the warmer months also in tents. We have telephone and internet via the satellite it works but itís limited on the use for just spending time on the net.
We started this project as a couple living all ready in the area now a lot of friends are more involved and pop over now and then to give a hand or spend their holiday here.
When we arrived here.....there was nothing but a virgin piece of overgrown land and a bunch of ruins.....no road in, no electricity, water, sewage and no place to live in but just a stunning scenery to look at :-) This is nearly 8 years ago and a lot has been done since, with our vision, hands and of course the incredible support of many volunteers that passed by over the years....
We have to work hard to get this place going, so if you're from the MacDonalds culture, looking for a relaxing holiday and expect a 5 star hotel this isn't the place...We live a bit basic, but the food and atmosphere are good! Have all the things to live comfortably and the place is remote from civilisation.
We are happy if you are happy !!! We ask to work five normal days a week with us. (6 hours) ( I work a lot more ;-)
The weekends we try to go out and do something nice, go for a drink in the local Spanish bar or village discotheque.
If you have skills, great! But for us your enthusiasm and spirit are more important!
So if you are interested in helping us out with whatever it takes to make place even more beautiful, you're very welcome..
Please contact us if there's anything you'd like to know. Hope to hear from you...
