CALL FOR HELPERS
Our place is located between Turku and Helsinki in the village of Karjalohja on a beautiful hill with a view over fields with crops and horses. Only with a 7 minutes walk you reach the shore of the clean protected Enäjärvi Lake, where we do fishing, rowing, sailing, swimming, picnic, or take tours to the islands. Big forests with berries and mushrooms also surround us. You reach to the Turku-Helsinki express bus stop in 15 minutes with our biogas car. To reach the nearest small village with shop, library, spa, etc. takes 12 minutes by car and 35 minutes on bicycle.
Now this place serves our circle of partners and friends and we hope that one day it can also serve a larger circle. Eventually, it can also become an artist residence and an experimental ground for artistic, ecologic and holistic lifestyle development.
We are developing an old farm into an ecological self-sustainable unit. We are growing biodynamic food and exploring experiments in recycling and renewable energy sources.
The crew is a group of individuals, partners and friends who all share interest in global consciousness, ecological, aesthetic, ethic living, thinking globally locally, power of art music, drama and narratives. We are working in the fields of arts, academics, environmental activism, locally and internationally.
The house has been throughoutly renovated including the kitchen, the sauna, the compostable toilet, the solar power heading systems - everything already is good use. In one special spacious and light room we do yoga, meditate, celebrate, dance and gather.
We need helping hands with carrying around materials, setting the drainage and rainwater collection systems, building decks and balconies, taking care of the garden, helping out in the kitchen, collecting and storing harvest and keeping everything clean, nice and fresh.
We had a highly successful time with the first group of Help x people with us from mid August to mid September 2015. Kati from Finland, Maria from Germany, Holly and Angus from UK, Anna from US with her friend Fernando, Gaetan from France and Terry and Willy from New Zealand. They were all giving a great contribution to the development of our small ecological experiment. Especially the high spirit, the Help x friends brought in, created a great atmosphere. Also the good approach to work, were highly inspiring to experience. We succeeded in completing a major part of the remaining work with the outside of the house, painting red okra, working with the window framing, and making the house solid for taking the coming winter. We also had a good contribution in collecting wild food and maintaining the garden. During November /December we had Help x Pilar from Spain with her friend Dan from US. They helped out in working with the outside of the House and the scaffolds was partly taken away. Thank you a million all, great help x people.
In the coming cold season we will mainly work with the inside of the house, making the rooms in the second floor ready. In February – march we also have some people who have showed interest in exploring the Finnish wintertime.
Our crew member, Pekka, is handling safety, electronics and development of ecologic infrastructure, now mainly busy with red cross. .
Crew member Jouni, our singing and dancing ethnomusicologist, will be around for periods during winter.
Our crew member Ida Lotta is mainly abroad until spring time.
We can accommodate volunteers in 2 rooms in the house and in tents in our beautiful yard. We will provide food, housing and offer a stay in our special and friendly environment. We hope you will contribute with 6 hrs. work input per day. The weekends are free. We can take from 3- 6 volunteers.
