Welcome to Whakauti,

We are a family of 5, Myself and my daughter and our 3 rescue dogs.
We live in the beautiful Huon Valley in a place called Cradoc which is close to Cygnet and Huonville township.
Our home is on 16 acres of Bushland where we grow some of our food and maintain and cut our own firewood, and enjoy building and creating.
Our home is simple...we cook off gas and sometimes off our fire and we are on tank water, which means we have to watch our usage in the summertime due to lack of rain.
We are vegetarians and love our food especially when we experience a dish that someone else has prepared for us from another country.

We would be asking for 3- 4 hours a day 5 days a week with 2 days off to explore and enjoy your time in Tasmania. We offer 1-2 weeks stay depending on our availability. We also love spending time with our dogs, maintaining our home and property and chilling out at our local cafes, which I am sure you will love too.

The type of work involved would be helping out with walking our dogs, cooking an evening meal from time to time, help cut, split and gather firewood, help with preparing & maintaining grounds and gardening, Perhaps some house painting and help with building and repairing caravans and other buildings, clearing bush tracks and dams etc.
There is even room for creating also...

Our helpers would be staying in one of our vintage retro caravans and sharing the bathroom facilities with the family.
There is a no smoking policy for inside caravans or buildings, outside only.
We are a pretty relaxed family who enjoy good company and learning about other countries and their culture.

In early January we have the Cygnet Folk Festival...which goes for 2 days.
In feb/March we have 10 days on the Island and Taste of Tasmania...and much more.
We live on the Channel Highway 11ks from Huonville and 8ks from Cygnet, buses run daily and can be caught 300 metres up the road.

If you are looking for great food & great atmosphere then the lotus Eaters café in Cygnet will cater for your coffee & food needs as well as Ds internet Café Huonville.

Whakauti is a place of recovery and is a alcohol & drug free environment.

If this homestay sounds like you...then we look forward to meeting you.
