SORRY WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ACCEPT VOLUNTEERS AS WE ARE UNABLE TO OFFER ACCOMMODATION.
In June 2013 Scarborough Borough Council granted a community asset transfer of a semi derelict, 40 room, Grade 2 listed building to us. We are restoring this magnificent building into a health and well being centre for the whole community. We completed and opened phase one in June 2015. For full details please see out website, Facebook or Twitter pages.
We have a dedicated band of workers and volunteers but now urgently seek skilled plasterers and joiners and plumbers to help us with phases two and three of the restoration and are glad to offer accommodation and food in return for volunteer labour.
Scarborough is a lovely seaside resort just 40 miles from the city of York.Scarborough is a lovely traditional seaside town, originally a Spa town. Scarborough is the home of the acclaimed Stephen Joseph theatre established by Alan Ackbourne which hosts many theatre and preforming arts groups. There are projects of arts and culture to visit in your free time such as the Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum, also there is the Spa theatre and many lovely hotels and excellent restaurants to eat in. There are wonderful walks to take and the quaint Robin Hoods Bay is worth visiting nearby, along with the town of Whitby and there are numerous small seaside villages dotted around the coast line to visit. All of these places can be accessed by public transport. Scarborough is a great place for surfing and is second only to the south west of England for surfing.
THIS PROJECT IS PROBABLY BETTER FOR SOMEONE WHO ALREADY HAS EXPERIENCE OF LIVING AWAY FROM HOME AS YOU ARE NOT WITH A HOST FAMILY AND NEED TO BE QUITE SELF SUFFICIENT
As a volunteer on this project you would work 5 days a week 8am - 4pm ( or the hours specified by the volunteer website) with Saturday and Sunday off. .Please note this very carefully : WE WILL PROVIDE THE FOOD FOR YOUR MEALS WHICH YOU WILL COOK FOR YOURSELVES. You will be staying in 2 bedroom self contained flat, which maybe shared with another volunteer, it is fairly basic but there is a small kitchen and a hot shower and toilet with a lounge with TV with DVD player. There is no central heating but there are plug in electric heaters. You would NOT be with a host family but there would be lots of contact with staff and other volunteers during the day.The building is in the centre of town over looking the sea and you are in easy access of theatres, cinema, shops, cafes and walks to the beach. There is a Sports centre at South Cliff and many local classes and also an International Language School in town. Further
afield but easily accessible are the cities of York and Leeds.
We are looking for a couple of volunteers for a few months to help with this wonderfully inspiring renovation project and would welcome help from skilled trades and labourers.
