Update : the type of work at the moment is rather general maintenance, like painting etc. No help at the restaurant needed.

Hello, we are Alireza and Annelie, an Iranian-German couple living on the wonderful island of Qeshm in the Persian Gulf, very close to Dubai, but belonging to Iran. We are running a restaurant and a little shop right at the beach with a wonderful view. The main season is from October to May, (wintertime is just beautiful here, around 25°Celsius) cause in the summertime it is just too hot to stay outside during the day (around 40°Celsius). That is why we only host helpers from October to the beginning of April, even though our restaurant is open all year.

We are also planning on opening a camping site. And we are always open for new ideas.

Qeshm is a pretty big island, around 120km long with some fantastic areas. Iranians like to come here for the fresh air, the nature and the tax-free shopping. In our spare time we like to dive and snorkel, watch dolphins, ride the bike or go hiking a little bit.
We decided voluntarily to live in Iran cause the people here are very very friendly and have a nice sense of humor. We are very interested in meeting people from all over the world and build bridges between them and the Iranian people, cause Iranians are not allowed to travel everywhere. Thats why they are very happy to meet people from other countrys.

If you are interested in meeting and helping us, we would be happy to be your host.

Since we both already are very familiar with the German and Iranian culture we very much want to encourage people from other countries to apply. But for all it is important to know that due to sanctions international credit cards DO NOT WORK in Iran at no ATM. So you will have to bring enough cash to exchange money at exchange offices. We do not supply invitation letters for visa. You have to apply for a normal tourist visa and please DO NOT MENTION your volunteering at our place. At the moment it is better not to enter the island from Dubai via airplane. It is written in the internet that you will get a 14 days visa on arrival at the airport, but for some reason there is a lot of trouble with this recently and we do not recommend this way. It is much easier to enter from the mainland with a valid mainland visa. Also extend your visa rather in Shiraz, Yazd or Isfahan instead of Bandar Abbas.

We prefer non-smoking people. Vegetarians will have some hard time in Iran, cause all the restaurants do serve meat, so do we. But of course you can cook veggie-style for yourself, too and use our kitchen ;-)

The type of work is everything around our restaurant and shop. This is helping with the service (food, tea and hubble bubble = waterpipe = qhelyoon in persian). If you love to cook, you are most welcome, we are always interested in new recipes. Shopping the meat and vegetables is also possible. At the end of the night we are altogether cleaning the site. Since we expand all the time we also do have some work like painting fences or little construction work to do. We like people who are motivated to do something and not need to be asked for every little thing every day again, cause it is not fun to beg for the help over and over again. In that case we rather say goodbye early (I add this, cause we did have the experience that people thought they can stay with only helping like one hour a day and then just sit around and have fun.) Working hours: 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, mainly at night, we can talk and be flexible

I also want to mention, that Iran is a country where smoking any kind of drugs or drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited. We follow those rules and expect that from our guests, too. It might seem strange that I write this, but we did have some trouble with people who did not understand this. So please respect our perspective on this.
You can stay with our workers in a workers room. It is a good chance to practise Farsi with the staff. PLEASE BRING A SLEEPING BAG.
If you wish you can also stay in a tent next to the ocean, bathroom and laundry is provided there, too.
You can borrow a bicycle if you wish to look around the city.
Sometimes people ask us if Iran is a safe country to travel to. Please understand that we don´t think it is our job to convince you that Iran is a safe country. If we would not think it is safe, we would not live here. But like all the time in life, we can just speak for ourselves.
