We live about ten minutes from Cheviot and enjoy a lovely setting in the country, surrounded by farmland. There's a big garden, and the house is very comfortable, with good wifi too.

We really need a couple to come and do some gardener/handyman work plus look after our animals while we are both working.

I am currently working in Christchurch during the week and so we really need some one (preferably a couple) to look after the place during the week, to cook a meal for Bryan on the nights he is here, to keep the dogs company and to feed the horses, sheep, pigs, cats and dogs.

We would prefer to have someone for some time, and you would be free to go away for weekends if that suited you. We also need someone to housesit when Bryan has to go overseas from late September to mid October so you would be on your own then.

So it isn't quite the normal helpx situation as we can't work with you and we are pretty relaxed about what work you do, the main thing is to look after the animals.

There is a lot of gardening to do but as there will be no one to supervise, we would prefer to have someone with gardening experience. We are even prepared to pay for the right people for this job. There is a lot of pruning, cutting, and a huge tidy up job, with the idea that we will make the garden low maintenance, so once the clean up is done, there will be planting too. Your ideas and creativity are welcomed!

If you did want to do some farm work, we could arrange that with the farm manager on the farms next door.

If you are a good horse rider, you are welcome to ride the horses but you do need to be experienced. Connie and Cole are not suitable for beginners or people who have only ridden a few times. They are especially in need of work at the moment, they haven't been ridden for ages! The donkeys enjoy going out for a walk on the lead too.

We live ten minutes out of Cheviot and about ten minutes drive from the coast (Gore Bay, a great surfing spot). We've got 2 lovely house dogs, 1 retired sheep dog, 2 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 kunekune pigs, pet sheep (5) and 4 cats.

Bryan runs Harris Meats, which is located on next door. If you don't eat/like meat, then you may not like our place. If you do, then you will be amazed at how good the meat here is, and you will know exactly where it came from!

There's lots of sporting activities around here, Bryan cycles and watches a lot of rugby. There's some great walks, and if you are keen on surfing or fishing, the river and sea are nearby. There are also some great tramping options.

We are about 1hour 20 mins from Chch.
