due to a last minute cancellation we have some space for a helper with building, carpenty or plumbing skills from now until October.
We are a horse rescue and rehoming Charity situated on a smallholding within the scenic North York Moors National Park. We have 28 horses ranging in age from foals upwards.

We need some help with JOINERY, CARPENTRY or PLUMBING. Constructing wooden stables, repairing wood fencing and farm buildings etc. - applicants must have previous experience.
On the horse side, our helpers help look after, groom, feed and care for our horses and ponies.
We use a variety of horse friendly training and handling methods, based on Natural Horsemanship, so this opportunity is ideal for someone wanting to learn more about groundwork, starting and bringing horses on. There is riding available in your free time if you are already a safe and competent rider. We have miles of lovely hacking right on our doorstep, as well as lovely coastal and woodland walks.
We are 8 miles from the seaside town of Scarborough, and 4 miles from the nearest bus stop, so applicants do need to like this quiet rural lifestyle. We are 40 miles from York, and close to the historic town of Whitby, so there is plenty to see on your days off.
We provide accommodation (your own room) and basic food in exchange for 35 hours per week. We are a vegetarian family and request that meat and fish products are not cooked or eaten in our home. The farm, buildings and land are non smoking areas.
PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR ESSENTIAL INFORMATION BEFORE APPLYING TO STAY:
We prefer a minimum stay of 1 month, HelpXers are welcome to stay longer subject to a one month trial period to make sure we are both happy.
You need to be able to follow instructions accurately as you will be working on some routine tasks without supervision. Our work is mostly outdoors and of a practical and physical nature, so you do need to be able to comfortably carry buckets of water and bales of hay as required.
If you are applying to help with the horse care side you MUST already be able to handle horses effectively and safely BEFORE applying to come here.
We are looking for flexible, happy people who don't mind joining in with whatever jobs need doing around the yard and farm.
We welcome people from all over the world help us, however applicants must speak reasonable English (we are happy to help improve your English if wanted, but cannot translate).
Our old farmhouse is in a very beautiful, quiet rural area. We do not have central heating.
The internet here is quite slow it is fine for checking emails a couple of times a day but not for downloading TV or films etc.
If you need more than two hours of internet a day and do not enjoy basic and simple countryside living then we are not the right host for you!
During the day you will mostly be working with either staff or other helpers, though you do need to be able to work on your own on some jobs.
It is lovely and quiet here in the evenings, so you do need to be happy with your own company we do usually have other helpers staying with us, but we cannot guarantee that you will always have company. We do not currently have a TV, though we do have a good selection of books on a wide range of subjects.
