Hi there and thanks for reading our advert.

This Summer we are looking for experienced painters and decorators to come and help freshen up our fantastic hostel!

We are consistently voted Edinburgh's most popular youth hostel, we won the award again for 2017 and only a few years ago we were voted the best extra large hostel in the world!!

We are located directly underneath Edinburgh Castle on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and our hostel is run by a young, multicultural and vibrant team.

We are ONLY looking for Help-ex volunteers with experience in Decorating and Painting.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: This could be a stipend position for the right people with the right experience - with an allowance made to reimburse food and tool costs.

***You will be required to volunteer for 14 hours each week (2 hours per day) to qualify for a free bed and in reality you could be busily caught up in your work for between 2 – 4 hours per day depending on whether full rooms need redecorated or you are working on touch-ups. Training will be hands on, as you are based alongside our maintenance team. During your induction, we will familiarise you with our building and you will work daily from around 11am.***

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the familiarisation / induction process we will need volunteers who can readily commit to staying at least a couple months…but in general the longer the better…the longer you stay, the more you will do and learn along the way. This is an excellent opportunity to develop ‘on the job’ skills in different crafts and trades, drawing on the experiences of our maintenance team and hostel staff.

I am also able to offer written references, where the quality of your work and your attendance stands up.

There is always plenty of decorating and minor touch up work to be done around our youth hostel, so there will be no shortage of work for you.

In return for your time, we would love to offer you: FREE ACCOMMODATION in our staff dorm (linen changed weekly), FREE STAFF TOWEL USE, FREE BREAKFAST(not cooked,) FREE STAFF LAUNDRY facility (one sack of clothes washed, dried and folded each week!) FREE TEA, COFFEE, MILK and SUGAR throughout the hostel, FREE UNLIMITED WIFI, FREE CITY MAPS, FREE BOOK SWAP, limited FREE STAFF LUGGAGE STORAGE……not to mention the opportunity to live in, explore and be a part of Scotland’s Capital City!!

If you are interested, and keen to be a part of our crew then please get in touch, detailing your skills and previous decorating experience, and ideally attaching a CV for us to look through. Please do specify the amount of time you are available. Please note that I cannot guarantee an individual response to every application, however if your skills and experience are suitable and we are interested, then I'll be straight back to you! Thanks for reading!
