Firstly, just letting you know I, (Sue, am overseas till 22nd March. If interested, dont use my home or cell numbers but use this site to contact me. If you decide to come I'll give you my husbands Brians phone number. (My phone will bring in Roaming charges.)
I'm after a couple (or a guy for gardening and girl to do house cleaning) mid March, give or take a few days, 13th to 23rd March before Airbnb take over house on 25th.Flexible arrival time but need to be left by the Friday morning.(23rd)
My name is Sue, and my husband, Brian and I live at Coopers beach on 3 acres of lawn, bush, a pond and many shrub and tree borders which all need continuous upkeep.
If you're happy to eat beef and chicken as well as fresh fish in summer, that would also be best! We are a meat and potatoes type couple. (But have rice and stir fries) when visitors offer to cook that way!!)
Food is very simple and healthy. I make all my own sourdough bread, kombucha and kefir(fermented yoghurt) which you are welcome to try. We love the kombucha as its a healthy but fizzy and flavourful tea drink. And so do most of our visitors!
Coopers Beach is 30 minutes from Kaitaia and 50 minutes from Kerikeri. It is very picturesque. We're only a few minutes from Mangonui where there are lovely eating places and all essential services. There are buses to Coopers beach from Auckland which drop you just a couple of kilometers from our home. Intercity is the name of the bus company when booking. Can get dropped off at Coopers beach or Mangonui or Cable Bay drop off.
Husband Brian works at tiling bathrooms, kitchens, etc. I do some relief teaching, but mostly spend time talking to people everywhere about God and His love for us.
We love to meet new people and learn from each other. We have a boat and really enjoy fishing when Brian is not too busy. You may come with us too!
On your first day here you can relax and settle in and maybe just help get dinner going.
After that you can work 20 hours per week, maybe 5 days of 4 hours and then 2 days off. As we ask minimal hours compared to others we'd love you to help prepare meals too.
We are flexible in your timing of work hours. Eg one helper worked 20 hours over three days, from Monday to Wednesday and went away sight seeing in his van from Thursday to Sunday with another mate. All good with us.
Feel free to relax at beach, and enjoy spa on the deck and lovely sea view from house and local walks etc. A car is a big help as the beach is only a minute away by car, but there's a big hill to walk back up to get home if on foot! There are great beaches and day trips nearby too, and especially to Cape Reinga, the very top of the North Island.
We have Internet and unlimited Wifi which you can use and most cell and Smart phones work well here. If you love movies, we have a good collection. Brian has put in a movie projector which gives a pretty cool picture onto a big pull down screen. We also use chrome cast on a new TV which makes it like a Smart TV. (But please don't have day time movies on in lounge where we hang out!!)
PS I should add we are a Christian couple involved in Sunday morning worship and music at the local church and out also 7 till 9 on Wednesday evenings....
(You're also very welcome to come to church and meet a great crowd of people and be refreshed and energized in Gods presence too!!).
If you are interested we are happy to share why we became christians and do all the things we do. God is very real to us so please don't be offended eg when we pray God's blessing on our food!!
Looking forward to meeting you sometime soon!!
Until then my prayer for my helpx friends is from Psalm 121 “The Lord will keep you from all harm — He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:7-8
Have a blessed time travelling,
Sue and Brian
