Established in 2001 when I was made redundant and retired early, independent and self-funded research is being undertaken that enables trees to be successfully established in low rainfall regions that represent 90% of Australia and 70 of the planet's landmass. The main focus is high survival and growth rates to address salinity.
'Auria' is the word 'Australia' from which 'salt' has been removed. Locally the water table has been lowered by over 2metres seasonally with considerable benefits for neighours up and down the catchment.
'Auria' has twice been a finalist in the UN Association of Australia 'World Environment Day Awards'.
Over the years I have had many wonderful volunteers who have loved the discoveries that are being made here in regard to saving the planet for future generations.
Trees are the most important part of 'the water cycle' - there is no better way for restoring rainfall than establishing trees in low rainfall regions.
The photos show mowing to reduce the fire risk without the use of chemicals and mulching prunings - both of which also add vital nutrients to the soil. General shots show how degraded agricultural land is being transformed into a forest.
