This is an Asturian farming spot where a multidisciplinary project is being materialized. Here we bring to practice the principles of agroecology, gardening, nature courses, the responsible use of natural resources, ethnobotanics and traditions by creating a kind of spiritual and nature-close retirement in the middle of the mountains.

Our farm is located in a small settlement called Camales belonging to the city of Oviedo. Less than half a dozen of people are living in this village which is at distance of only 5km from Trubia, where you can find grocery stores as well as all other basic services, local buses and trains. With the train line from Trubia to the city centre of Oviedo it's only a 15min trip. Despite of being so close to the Asturian capital (less than 20km), it was possible to maintain the spirit of country life. At our spot time appears to stand still.

Far away from daily stress and the common worries of our society we, Mario from Austria and German from Andalucia Spain, are living together on our small animal farm. In these green, prolific valleys with their meadows and vast woodlands, our constant companions are the singing of the birds and the soft of distant cow bells. Fresh fountains and crystal clear rivers with trouts and other rare animals can be found in our surroundings. We speak english, german, spanish and a little french.

Our project is still young, in the early stages of development, but together with the volunteers' help and our knowledge and experience in gardening, nursery business, environmental education and organic farming, we can put much more effectively into shape our dream of a self-subsistence and harmonic life.

The support areas we require are: Taking care of the farm animals, vegetable, fruit and ornamental gardens, manufacturing products (by everything nature offers: jams, cider, preserved and dryed fruits and nuts, breads, etc ), cleaning, bioconstruction, restoration of walls and maintenance of abandoned land and old pathways, preparing of compost and natural phyto-sanitary products, recovery of traditions, use of natural resources, identification of plants and seeds, etc. This would take normally about 5 hours/day from Mo-Sat. We prefer a stay betweem 1 or 2 whole weeks.
Volunteers will be accommodated in a neighbouring settlement in a traditional Asturian house with its 'Horreo' (old type of a traditional wooden storage building). The accommodation is located in an open and sunny valley with a view of wonderful meadows and hills with high snow-covered mountaintops in the background. It's about 2.5km distance of the farm, very near in a walk. The house is maintained in an old traditional style with its own woodstove but at the same time offering all the comforts of modern life.
We are looking for people who enjoy nature, animals, plants, gardening, organic farming, good working, the tranquility of the countryside and to disconnet of modern-cities worries, cultural, lamguages and cooking exchange, hiking… Persons willing to learn and share the different things we can offer.
During free time we can suggest many different excursions to very close interesting places that can be made: The Guanga Waterfalls, The Paths of the Bears, The Defile of the Xanas (Asturian Goddesses of Love), a cultural visit to Oviedo, traditional farm markets in Grado and Oviedo and the thermal baths of Las Caldas, only to mention some of them. It's even possible to make the original Way of Saint James from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela (13 stages).
