Here is some general infomation about the placement:
Day to Day:
The canoeing and kayaking side is run from the farm. The farm is 15 mins from Oliveira do Hospital and 20 mins from Tabua.
The main task for volunteers is to drive the jeeps, picking up canoeists and driving them to and from the river start and finish finish point which is 15mins from the farm.
IMPORTANT: Drivers Must have a european driving license or International driving license.
Clientes are met at the river start point and briefed on their day, given equipment and practice. The boats are prepared every day according to bookings.
Canoes and kayaks are left at the trip finish point to be collected later and canoeists are taken back to their campsite or accommodation in the área.
The most important aspect of volunteering is that clients are met with friendly and professional people at the begining and end of their canoe trip. A careful and confident driver is required. Volunteers may also need to make bookings for interested parties at the campsites they visit. A mobile phone is provided with the jeep as well as staff t-shirts.
Two or three volunteers are taken on during the summer months. This way Rock and river work can be divided between the volunteers.
The placement best suits volunteers looking for a 3-4 week placement.
If working on the farm, volunteers are given tasks to help with the garden. Normally this is planting, weeding, watering.
The canoeing Schedule and general garden work is given to volunteers to divide between themselves. I like volunteers to work independently and to plan their days between them.
Living conditions and general info:
I am English and have been living in Portugal for 10 years
I hope to provide a relaxed environment where volunteers can help and relax.
Volunteers will live and work with me. The accommodation space is very comfortable. Volunteers have use of the kitchen. There are no set meal times, but we plan and prepare meals together.
All meals are provided by me.
If volunteers wish for extra items and alcohol they will have oppertunities to buy at local supermarkets
There is a bbq área and áreas on the farm to relax.
The shared accommodation includes 2 bedrooms and a bathroom for volunteers. The two bedrooms consist of a room with double bed and a second room with bunk beds.
There is also a lounge área and WIFI available.
The jeep that volunteers will use for client collection is used only for work purposes.
There will be oppertunities to kayak and also to participate in a volunteer only kayak camping expedition.
My parents have come to live with me here on the farm.
Volunteers can take the bus to Tabua or Oliveira do hospital where I will collect them.
It is really important that volunteers have a clear idea of the living arrangements and work duties before they come.
The idea is that volunteers have a fantastic time here and enjoy their stay.
