We are a young group of people who run a summer fruit business with a strong social & environmental vision.
We buy fruits from local farms and sell them direct to the public from our road side stalls; teaching ourselves & the consumer about the real value of fresh seasonal food. We invite you to help us & be part of our team. Our community is very well organised.
At our ecological guesthouse, where you will be staying, we cook with fresh, seasonal produce, sharing a big meal together at the end of each day. We compost all our food scraps, we recycle, we value community; and we use trade to create social, cultural and environmental value. We like hiking, surfing, yoga, meditation, vegan cooking, caring for our cats and playing music.
Be warned! We are a living, breathing, thriving social enterprise and community, so of course financial aims are part of what we do and by volunteering with us, you`ll have to be comfortable helping us to achieve these.
"But how can I help ?"
You'll drive to one of our vans to one of our fruit stalls located around Auckland and sell fresh local fruit to many people!
"How can I know if I fit in, in the community?"
We love peaceful people over 25 who enjoy hiking, nature, yoga, vegan meals, a cup of tea and who are ready to contribute to a wonderful community :)
"How long will I need to volunteer?"
Our woofing minimum term is 2 weeks. There is a possibility of extension if both parts are willing to have more time together!
"What else do I need for woofing there?"
To help us you will need to have a drivers licence and be comfortable driving a car on this side of the road.
5 years of driving experience is preferred! We need mature responsible people, who are prepared to take responsibility if they cause an accident. So we require you have insurance, which covers vehicles also.
If you read this, please write in your message what you had for your last breakfast. :)
"For how many days I'll work?"
We work three full days a week, and have four days off to explore. Often the volunteers organise between themselves and do hiking and camping trips on days off :)
"Where will I sleep?"
We all live together at our eco house, forming a family of travelers from many countries. Accomodation is in shared dorm or vans which we supply (with mattress and blankets).
"Where is the community located?"
Our small farm is located on the edge of Auckland – 30 minutes to the city centre, close to the National Parks and the coast beaches.
Idealistic ideas :)
Organisations can make a real difference and one of our missions is to be an example of how positive change can be made. From little things, big things grow. Fruit Vans supports local farmers and local diversity; supports the multi-cultural community who work together each summer to operate it; offers a place for learning and exchange; for living a sustainable lifestyle as the centre of a business; provides customers with fresh, seasonal produce, encouraging people to go back to the source of food, to know where it comes from and to re-establish this connection with the earth.
A large motivating factor for us is to invest profits generated from Fruit Vans to form and support ecological communities, where travelers are able to experience an ecological lifestyle by living it.
If you have any question, please let us know!
Hope to see you soon!
Due to the large amount of requests we receive from wwoofers, we are not always able to answer every email, so please forgive us if we don't get back to you quickly.
