Our General 'live in' volunteering programme is currently on hold in 2018. We are reviewing our Volunteering Programme across the organisations to ensure exciting, supported opportunities in the future. You are welcome to message us but we do not currently have any live volunteering opportunities.

Our lodge, 'a place to grow', is a former Victorian hunting Lodge built in the 1850s and set in 52 acres of beautiful mixed woods at the foot of Tinto Hill, near Biggar in Southern Scotland. The Lodge is in a remote rural location 15 minutes by car to the nearest shops. Our residential outdoor centre provides an 'emotionally secure' environment in which young people and vulnerable adults undertake Personal, Social and Emotional Development through experiential outdoor challenge activities, nature connections and the creative arts. We also welcome many diverse self programming groups. Our food is renowned, homemade and tasty. It is ethically and locally sourced.

Over the years we have welcomed volunteers from around the world who help us achieve our charity's aims, as well as maximising the use of their own skills. We are a friendly and supportive team some of whom live in the Lodge and in the cottages on the Estate. Many people here play music, so feel free to bring your own instrument with you.

As well as welcoming volunteers into our unique community, we offer them full board, laundry, WiFi, 1:1 support, training and free activities, in exchange for mutually agreed work within the Lodge or the Estate (usually 4 days of 7 hours work, and 3 days off). We can guarantee you an unforgettable experience. Due to being built in Victorian times the lodge can be cold and draughty at times so you will need to bring lots of warm clothes for working inside or outdoors. We can provide any waterproof clothing, boots, gloves and all safety equipment.

Ideally our General Volunteers would spend 3-6 months with us. They spend two days in housekeeping (serving meals, cleaning the lodge, changing beds etc) and for the other two days you would be in the grounds of the estate (general maintenance, building projects, helping us develop our new "Path of the Little People" project. Where possible we try to enable volunteers to utilise or develop their own skills. It may be possible for medium-term volunteers (3 months +) to volunteer for some programme work or more tailored volunteering experience.

Accommodation is either in the main house or the volunteers' cottage and you usually need to share. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate volunteers under the age of 18 or volunteers' children.

Please read the reviews below and if you would like to discuss your skills and needs just give us a call or email. We can send you a more detailed volunteering information sheet.
