We live on Kawau Island which is 1 hour north of Auckland by road and then a 30 minute boat ride from Sandspit. There are no roads where we live, no shops on the island and access to the island is by ferry or water taxi which costs approximately $29 per person. We maybe able to pick you up in our own boat depending upon the weather and tides.
Doug is a carver and builder. Nikki an Occupational Therapist. We are sailors and enjoy the remoteness of island life but the easy access to the city.
Our property is sloping up from the water with a high tide jetty and a 10 minute walk to an all tide wharf. It is a pole house with two double bedrooms available for helpers. We are surrounded by redwood trees, NZ natives and there's heaps of birdlife. If you enjoy a bit of solitude, flora and fauna, time in or on the water, bush walks, plus some interesting NZ history, then you will love it out here.
We need help with general property work - carrying timber, firewood, maybe some building and weeding. Wifi, a landline and some mobile phone coverage is available.
We would prefer a couple or 2 people traveling together.
