Other skilled work: arborists, landscape architects, horticulturists, garden designers etc...we have a park-like garden that needs some attention and 18 acres to work on, so you will be in gardening heaven! With over 1,000 olive trees, 300 rose bushes and hundreds of other trees there is always something to do. We are always be happy to have folks along who can help us to tidy and shape the grounds!

ABOUT US, THE AREA, AND WHAT YOU GET TO EXPERIENCE IF YOU COME HERE.....
We are lucky to live in a lovely property 3km outside the charming wine village of Martinborough – just one hour away by car or train from Wellington, NZ's Cool Little Capital City.
Martinborough is on the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail and is famous for its Pinot Noir (Bordeaux style) wine. With a wide array of varietals available and a number of vineyards and olive groves to visit, wine and olive oil tasting should be firmly on the list of things to do when you’re here. There are a number of boutique vineyards and olive groves in the area, many of which are within walking distance of the property.
We own and operate a small high quality Bed & Breakfast accommodation and a Commercial Olive Grove. The Bed & Breakfast has its own private guest wing and that’s where you will stay when you come to us. The well-established olive grove has over 1,000 trees of mixed varietals and we work to sustainable principles wherever possible. The grove is around 20 years old, which by NZ standards is quite old.
There's lots of things for you to do and see in your spare time. The Wairarapa area has amazing scenery and outdoor activities. Besides wine tasting, there’s Pukaha Mount Bruce Wildlife Conservation Centre, walks in the Tararua Forest Park or on local trails, the Wairarapa’s rugged coast and beaches at Riversdale or Castlepoint, visit the Lighthouse, or you could stroll, jog or cycle around the 'Golden Mile' vineyard circuit (an easy flat walk/run from here). Our two dogs enjoy a walk around the vineyards and would be delighted to accompany you!
The village has a population of only 1,500 yet we are fortunate enough to have good facilities including a supermarket and deli, chemist, doctor's surgery, BNZ and ANZ banks, butchers and a number of boutique and clothes shops, the Martinborough Wine centre, a number of great cafes and restaurants (and fabulous vineyards and their restaurants!) and also Circus – our own art house cinema. There’s also a local Artists trail, the Martinborough Golf Course (just a short walk away), Kahutara Canoes, Patuna Farm Horse Trekking and Riding (they do lessons by arrangement too), Macleod’s Quad Bikes, NZ's very own Stonehenge (Stonehenge Aotearoa) and Spa and Beauty Treatments if you fancy a splurge!
There's also a bus service in town which picks up and drops off at Featherston station and meets all of the trains for a direct service into Wellington. It's a really scenic train ride which takes around 50 mins and drops you off right in the heart of the CBD - then it's a short walk to pretty much anywhere in our compact capital city! It's an easy and cheap way to spend a day in the city and then be able to come back to some peace and tranquility.
We are keen travellers and photographers ourselves (Marcus is a professional photographer) and own and operate a photography business, which includes taking clients on photography and other special interest tours around NZ and Australasia.
We’re originally from the UK, have been in NZ since 2005 and love having people stay with us from overseas and hearing about all of their adventures. We have a good knowledge of NZ from organizing our photography tours and travelling in NZ ourselves, and are happy to share our experiences and knowledge with you. Will help with the English language too, if you need it.
We have 2 dogs who live indoors with us and are part of our family - so you must be comfortable and confident with dogs if you come to stay!
AS WE ARE IN A RURAL AREA YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN TRANSPORT.
We look forward to meeting and hosting you soon. Safe travels!
See our websites for more details.
Our photos show the property and views of the Rimutaka Mountains from the property and a photo of Marcus and Wendy - your hosts.
