This is a 50 acre woodland estate situate in a coastal setting on the Wild Atlantic Way. The property is located on Bantry Bay, 7km from the village of Glengarriff and 11km from Bantry town; The estate includes 15 holiday homes that are rented to tourists during the holiday season. This place was once the ancestral home of Ellen Hutchins, a famous Irish botanist, whose family planted and laid out an arboretum on the estate, including numerous Irish specimen trees as well as substantial foreign trees. In addition, the estate contains many flowering exotic trees and shrubs. However, the arboretum is long neglected and overgrown with weeds and briars, as well as fallen trees and branches. We are planning to try and reclaim the arboretum and are looking for people to help us, initially in clearing and developing walks/paths within the woodlands. We are looking for a total of 4 people who will ideally stay with us for a minimum of 8 weeks. This will suit people who are interested in working in a natural environment. You will be provided with your own shared accommodation in one of the 4 star holiday homes on the grounds during your stay (3 double/twin bedrooms, all ensuite). You will also be provided with a subsistence allowance of 100 per week in return for your work. Bicycles are also provided.
