Want to see what life is like here on the land in The Yarra Valley, one hour from Melbourne?
We need help with gardening and small jobs around the house. Nothing too big or difficult and only 4 hours work per day. Jobs include weeding garden beds, picking up sticks, cobweb removal, raking leaves and stacking firewood. We have an old stable that needs some weatherboards re-attached and a good muck out. Any carpentry skills would be really helpful here.
Our farm is near Healesville in the Yarra Valley. Approximately 1 hour from Melbourne by car, or train to Lilydale? There is a bus from Lilydale to Healesville, and I can pick you up.
My sister and her husband live here with their sons and run the 600 acre farm.
The rest of the family share another house on the property. We live in Melbourne with our own families, and we get to the farm as often as possible, mostly at weekends.
We have a vineyard, Charolais and Angus beef cattle and sheep.
The farm has "Land for Wildlife" status and we have magnificent views of the valley and the farm is great for hiking.
If the weather is warm there is a huge dam good for swimming. There are native fish in the dam that are good to eat if you like to catch them?
There are lots of birds for you to see, small and large ones - like Wagtails, Silvereyes, many parrots, Wedge Tailed Eagles, also waterbirds - ducks, coots, cormorants, stints and occasional visiting swans, pelicans and spoonbills, plus more.
We will provide food and you can use of a renovated bunk-room that has 5 beds, a bathroom, a fridge and microwave in a kitchenette.
2-3 nights at the weekend is best for us.
The Healesville Sanctuary is nearby and we are surrounded by Victoria's best wineries and many sightseeing and trekking opportunities. The Yarra Valley is great for a weekend out of Melbourne.
