Trudi and I are middle-aged. Our children are grown up and we have two grand-children which visit regularly. We have been involved in Permaculture since 1975. We live mostly by ourselves but also keep two active, very busy offices at this address and 3 people work from the two offices. We teach courses in the field of Sustainable Design here and overseas. See our website for more info. If you have a look at the Photo library you will see some of our activities. Also have a look at this website via our blog link above which tells a little about an NGO we operate from here.
Located about 25 min (by car) from MALENY. You can reach Maleny by train (to LANDSBOROUGH) and then bus to Maleny. You will need a lift from Maleny.
We have WWOOFers accommodation which is separate from the house. It consists of a small "Chalet" with two bedrooms (each with two beds and it's own little veranda with a lovely view), a small kitchenette, a dining/sitting room, a shower/bath and a toilet.
We have some bikes available but you need to make any repairs and wearing a helmet and gloves while riding is compulsory.
We provide linen and blankets and a towel. You need to clean the Chalet before you leave (this includes washing all glasses to a high polish and scrubbing all pots you used!)
You may need to share the accommodation with other WWOOFers.
There is a phone available, limited e-mail. ( Wireless available if you have a laptop) We provide a DVD player and TV as well as a CD player. (DVD's for rent in the village) a washing machine is available in the nearby camping area.
The accommodation is "Non-smoking"(smoking on the veranda is OK), and we appreciate it if you take your shoes off at the door.
You have access to most food grown in the garden and orchard. We provide rice, oil, sugar and some spices. You need to provide the rest. It is best if you do some shopping in Maleny on the way in. Most of the time we have plenty of vegetables in the garden. Often we have some eggs to share and there is plenty of our own honey.
Staying with us is not ideal for people who seek a close family connection. I work overseas a lot and teach many weeks every year. When I'm home I need a break from people, some peace and quiet. We sometimes eat with our visitors but don't take this as a promise.
The accommodation is ideal for couples and people who like to have some time and place to themselves.
What we expect from you.
We expect from you about 4 hrs of engaged, solid work for each night you stay with us. We will ask you to keep a diary of your work. The work is generally diverse. We keep bees, a small herd of cattle, a few chickens, a large garden, a good sized orchard and some forestry. If you have skills using machinery we would like to know. Some work is repetitive, boring. You need to work at times on your own and at times we start very early in the morning. We will explain any job before you start and don't mind questions and suggestions. You can combine your hours (for example, work 8 hrs on one day, none the next) if you like. We provide gloves if you need them.
Very rarely will you be doing any work in the office. Some work on structures is a possibility.
Please note that we are NOT a large commercial farm. We farm a total of approximately 6 ha.
We expect that you have insurance cover in case of any accidents.
We give preference to visitors interested in staying for a minimum of one week.
