***** Hi Helpxers in Tassie. Just noticed after I posted - could you please ignore our listing and go to the farm listed below ours as it seems she needs your help more than us at the moment. *****
NEWS & WARNING TO ALL HELPXERS (AND HOSTS):
We are issuing this warning in the interests of protecting humanities seed heritage and the world's food supply, to protect nature from genetic pollution, and so that innocent people can know what is going on and choose to not take part in it.
One of the permaculture teachers and presenters at the recent permaculture convergence works with Food Plant Solutions which is funded directly from Monsanto and agribusiness. They promote 'sustainable' agriculture to the third world. An objective to control the world's food supply, by genetically modifying food plants and promoting the scientific agriculture agenda, is not caring for Earth or for people.
We do not take permaculturists or practice permaculture any more.
We have had many, many bad experiences with permaculturists and their 'system' which contradict their principles. Despite once practicing permaculture ourselves we have rejected it on ethical grounds. Our experience is that PERMACULTURE IS NOT ETHICAL NOR IS IT SUSTAINABLE. Don't be fooled - look where you want to help at and who you learn from.
If permaculture works with the Government and Monsanto then it is part of "The Thing", as John Seymour put it, and must be fought against or all real chance of self-sufficiency for poor people and not just the rich will be lost forever. Permaculture is not Self-Sufficiency. Permaculture is being promoted by the government and is trying to take over and control Self-Sufficiency. Self-Sufficiency is independent of, and does not work with, government. It was around way before permaculture and if we defend self-sufficiency it will be around way after permaculture.
If that hasn't scared you off and you just want to do some real self-sufficiency then we are very happy to have you!
Good Heart Farm is our smallholding on the edge of Tasmania's Tarkine Wilderness (half-rainforest, half-farmland).
We run the Good Heart School of Self-Sufficiency.
We practice: Self-Sufficient Farming, Self-Sufficiency, Homesteading, Natural Farming and Organic growing.
We do research into sustainable methods of food production by working with nature.
Between 1997 and 2012 we set up Australia's first Sustainable Small Farm - a demonstration site for sustainable living and maintained the largest seedbank of rare vegetables in Western Australia.
This is Tasmania's first Sustainable Small Farm™ and has an extensive food forest with heritage fruit (cherries, plums, apples, pears, quinces, laurels, figs, currents and berries), nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts and chestnuts) and native pepperberries. We keep rare breed sheep, chickens and rabbits.
Experience living the back-to-basics self-sufficient lifestyle. Join in as we grow our food, make jams and preserves, bake our own bread, and more. We preserve our own food and eat with the seasons.
Accommodation is self-contained and is basic but comfortable. We have power but no running water and no TV. The property has a variety of wildlife including numerous birds and native marsupials.
Farm activities you can be involved in include animal feeding, composting, weeding, seed sowing, mulching, herb propagation, seed saving, picking, preserving, cooking, etc. Help us save food plant heritage in our living Food Plant Sanctuary™. Beginners welcome.
We would love help at the moment with feeding animals and working in our organic gardens, berry patches and orchard.
We expect people to help on the farm for at least six hours a day.
We are looking for helpers who can stay for one week or longer. We don't take anyone between mid May and July.
We teach self-sufficiency (for a living) so please don't expect to be taught everything for free. We like helpers who see helpx in terms of a fair exchange. We can pick helpers up from Wynyard if necessary but we are not a taxi service and that is as far as we go. There is a bus to Wynyard (stops at Jackson st).
We don't always pick up phone messages straight away or check our emails daily because we are busy people so we may take a couple of days to respond to your phone call or email.
We are looking at starting a community on the farm (a Community Farm™!) so if you are interested please ask us about it while you are here.
Please note we have a policy of no drugs. Sorry, we don't do the second year visa.
