We need help from the last week in April or sometime near that time period! We have a 180 acre farm in the spectacular Robson Valley, we raise hay and grains, a small flock of sheep, a small fresh water pond with rainbow trout. The Fraser river winds around part of the farm. wildlife that pass through our farm on occasion are; black bear, deer, white tail and mule deer, elk, cougar, lynx. Lot's of waterfowl and hundreds of rufous hummingbirds. One of the largest collections of lilacs on the west coast. If you come to stay with us, we mostly want help with lawn mowing, pruning lilacs and trees, fencing (building and maintaining fence) gardening, and some house sitting. The work is not hard and can be very rewarding!
You will have your own accommodations, a neat sheepherders wagon, a small cabin or a bedroom in the main house. You likely will be having meals with us, unless you would like your space, best time to visit is May through September.
If you come to stay with us, we don't want to keep you confined to doing work. We encourage you to explore Dunster and the Robson Valley. There are lots of things to do on your time off, Farmers markets, Ice Cream Social (july 3), Robson Valley Music http://www.robsonvalleymusicfestivalbc.com/ , and many other community events. There are also hiking trails nearby, mountains to climb, (caribou mountains and Rockies on either side of the valley. hiking in Mt Robson park thirty minuets away. Biking and walking trails. Not only is Dunster a lovely place, but it has even lovelier people.
How to get here: We are a 1.5 hour drive (~150 km) west of Jasper. The Skeena (Jasper-Prince George-Prince Rupert train) comes right to Dunster from either Jasper or Prince George and points west, alternate directions every other day but Tuesday. This is a GREAT way to see the area and if you book at least 7 days in advance is very reasonably priced. See www.viarail.ca. You can also get to Valemount (45 min from here) via the cross-Canada train coming from either Edmonton or Vancouver. Greyhound (www.greyhound.ca) has buses that can get you to either Valemount or McBride, they are only 30 and 20km away from Dunster. The one to McBride will drop you at Dunster. Our stay here is usually no longer than two weeks. For more pictures of our farm on flickr then click on our photos link above.
